The mission of Knute Nelson is to enrich the lives of everyone we serve.

This position is full-time working 40 hours a week, 80 hours a pay period at our Crystal Brook facility. The schedule typically runs Monday - Friday, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Scope:

• Create and coordinate meaningful activity programing that enhances or maintains the quality of residents’ lives. • Provide work direction to Life Enhancement Assistant and Chaplin. • Manage, coordinate and provide work direction to volunteers and community groups. • Communicate, announce and publicize available activity opportunities to residents, staff, family and community members. • Works closely with Executive Director, Director of Clinical Care, Case Managers, Culinary Director, Sales & Marketing, Chaplains, Care Staff, Wellness Center Staff, Community Groups, Volunteers, Residents and Families.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and design activities based on the unique needs and desires of individuals and households. Collaborate with residents, family and care staff to create meaningful programming that develops or maintains residents’ intellectual, physical, vocational, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing. • Create and coordinate household schedules appropriate to population. Develop, publish and distribute household calendars. Promote attendance at events. • Supervise Activity Assistant; provide work direction, create work schedule. Provide work direction to Chaplin. Provide orientation, training, work direction and supervision to volunteers and community groups. • Serve as point of contact for community groups, faith organizations, student groups, volunteers, presenters, entertainers, etc. • Make arrangements for events; promotion, set up, transportation, teardown, etc. • Manage supply inventory, obtain resources and purchase needed supplies. Adhere to department budget, submit and track check requests, complete monthly expense reports. • Attend educational seminars and developmental events, in service training and other work-related meetings. • Collaborate and communicate with other departments within continuum. • Carry out special projects as identified; participation in Employee Engagement Committee and Rewards and Recognition Committee, coordinate holiday decorations throughout building, maintain outdoor gardens, support Foundation events and complete other tasks as assigned. • Foster a culture that promotes a high standard of ethics, corporate responsibility, confidentiality and commitment to KN mission. • Develop and maintain positive relationships with residents and staff that encourages trust, cooperation, inspiration and goal achievement. • The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

Education and Experience Required:

• Requires a high school diploma and three to five years experience working in a recreational setting in older adult services or any equivalent combination of training, education and experience. • Education in social work, recreational therapy or gerontology preferred. • Requires strong organizational skills with ability to work independently and meet deadlines. • Experience with event planning/organizing or teaching helpful. • Requires ability to think critically and react quickly and calmly to diverse situations. Ability to collaborate with others and delegate to teams. • Strong computer skills are required, proficient in Microsoft Word and comfortable working with new technology. • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to complete and pass a criminal background study. • Able to physically perform the duties required by the position. • Required to have the ability to read, write and speak English well enough to communicate with staff, residents and visitors.
