REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least 3 years of related professional experience Strong racial and social justice education facilitation and training skills and experience, especially around topics related to racism in both cross-racial and intra-racial learning environments. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication and facilitation skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and constituencies and facilitate challenging conversations around equity, diversity, and social justice. Ability to reflect and share lived experiences in learning environments to model educational skills such as vulnerability, empathy, self-reflection, emotional awareness, and on-going learning. Demonstrated experience in, and an ongoing commitment to, working effectively with and providing education related to marginalized communities: including Black, Indigenious, People of Color, underrepresented religious groups; new immigrant populations; people with disabilities and disabled communities; women; LGBTQIA identities and expressions; and first-generation students from economically oppressed backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team setting Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independentlyPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field plus six years of related professional experience or a Master's degree and at least four years of related professional experience Prior work experience with multiple constituents in a higher education institution, including students, staff, faculty, alumni, and external community members Experience in the development and delivery of educational programming around equity, diversity, and social justice in a higher education setting Experience with on-line video creation Experience working with social justice interactive theater troupes About the Job The Associate Director of Racial and Social Justice Education primary responsibility is to work closely with the Director of Education and other OED staff to facilitate the work of the Education Program's trainings, programming, and consultation. This position is responsible for maintaining a high level of expertise and skill in support of every facet of OED's educational work, in particular education specific to racial and social justice. The position reports to the Director of Education and will work with several other staff members where a culture of sharing responsibilities across the office contributes to an efficient and productive unit. NOTE: This position is classified as an Education Program Specialist 1 (9745S1) which requires that the selected candidate have three or more years of relevant professional experience. If a qualified candidate meets the six years of experience requirement, OED will consider hiring at the Education Program Specialist 2 (9745S2) classification level.JOB DUTIES:Racial and Social Justice Educational Program Management and Development (60%): Work collaboratively with the Education Director to design, plan and implement educational materials and content for the Equity and Diversity Basic Certificate Program that focus on racial and social justice education. Act as a lead trainer to teach workshops for members of the University community and facilitate small group discussions focused on racism, white supremacy, and intersectionality through our educational programs. Design, develop, implement and assess the Racial Justice Certificate program focused on educating and developing skills addressing racism, white supremacy, colonization and related topics. Design, develop, implement and assess the Anti-Racism Conversation (ARC) program focused on anti-racism conversations and learning. This includes creating and updating curriculum, developing a pool of facilitators, and on-going evaluation of the program. Design, develop, and implement the Racial Justice Education Grant program providing grants to UofM departments and individuals developing racial justice education through courses, events, trainings, etc. Assist in the development and implementation of new initiatives such as educational retreats, leadership institutes, and theater performances focused on racial and social justice education.General OED Education Program Support and Development (30%): Work closely with Director of Education on education-related initiatives and projects to coordinate all education-related programming, services, and consultation Develop learning materials and instructional sessions about equity, diversity, and social justice based on sound instructional design principles that foster learning. Support and assist in the development of online curricula. This includes but is not limited to: assisting with maintaining and reviewing the ECHO program, developing and helping produce in-house educational videos and on-line resource guides. Assist with consultations, assessment, and educational programming with University departments and system campuses. Assist in the design of assessment tools, maintaining tracking systems and program evaluations for educational programs. Other outreach and support to the University constituents and partners.Administration and Communication (10%): Work closely with the Director of Education and others within the Education Program to organize, schedule and track several events/meetings/initiatives simultaneously. Assist in supporting the professional development for the OED training team, including developing curriculum for the training team retreats and fosterinng positive co-facilitator relationships/ Other duties as assigned that support the mission of the Office for Equity and Diversity.TERMS: This is a 100% annual renewable appointment in the Academic Professional and Administrators series.
