Position Information

OVERVIEW: Continuing Education and TrainND, an extension of Bismarck State College, focuses on providing life-long learning and training opportunities for professional development and personal enrichment as well as conference management services. We are looking for a candidate to develop, sell, and administer customized workforce training programs for business and industry. This position will actively research, creatively design, and effectively implement methods to educate and enhance the performance of North Dakota's workforce. This position will administer the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) program, a humanities-based program geared towards those 50 and older, and the Alternative Choice Training program, an evidence-based online substance abuse prevention training ordered by ND courts for underage offenses, as well as open enrollment personal enrichment programming, which involves coordinating the publication of 3 catalogs per year. Position Description & Details

SUMMARY OF WORK:

Plans, develops, directs, implements, and evaluates continuing education programs
  • Evaluates program needs and designs new programs; supervises and evaluates ongoing programs; recommends continuance, modification, or termination of programs. Makes excellent service a fundamental feature of the program.
  • In collaboration with the Dean of CE, creates and manages a strategy for recruiting, selecting, cultivating, and supervising adjunct faculty.
  • Plans, manages, and evaluates OLLI including managing the OLLI grant, hiring presenters, coordinating memberships, and overseeing OLLI programming events.
  • Collaborate with BSC Deans, Faculty, and the Polytechnic Director to develop and implement non-credit career pathways.

Develop and administer workforce programs for business and industry
  • Plans, manages, and evaluates workforce training programs, including prospecting for new clients, contracting with existing and past clients to build strong relationships with business and industry leaders in the defined region.
  • Provides consultation and/or management of needs assessment to identify needs of business and industry including identifying the needs for courses, programs, and training projects. Recommends appropriate solutions for courses, programs, certifications, training, and/or other value-added services that are linked to the companies' vision and strategic plan or community needs.

Miscellaneous duties
  • Promotes innovation, creativity, and ideas to improve/enhance processes, functions, etc., in CE and for the college while focusing on innovation at a flat level and fostering a culture of no fear for innovative practices.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

  • Occasionally - 1-33% - Reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop/kneel/crouch, or crawl, or lift up to 50 pounds.


Minimum Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree and two years of related experience.
  • Experience with managing a budget, implementing financially self-supporting continuing education non-credit programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, including the ability to speak well and present a good public appearance.
  • Must have the ability to plan, organize and determine methods that produce desired results and meet required deadlines.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, etc.), email and electronic calendar, and strong internet familiarity.
  • Experience in creating, maintaining, and improving quality programs in continuing education programs, online learning, workforce training and conference/special events planning is highly desirable.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with community college philosophy.
  • An understanding of the issues and challenges of continuing education, particularly in the non-credit arena.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit in the approach to outreach programs.
  • Understanding of the community and workforce educational needs of North Dakota.
  • Experience with non-traditional (adult-oriented) post-secondary education and professional development.
  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis including surveys, interviews, and focus groups.
  • Skilled in facilitation and training.
  • Evidence of creativity / innovation.
  • Enjoys and thrives in a friendly, highly visible, entrepreneurial, and active working environment.
  • Experience in training and development, management consulting, organizational development, workplace training and human performance improvement concepts.
