POSITION SUMMARY

Under supervision, the Packaging Machine Operator (PMO) is responsible for operating and basic machine maintenance of the automatic packaging and sealing machines to meet production quality and quantity needs. All Company policies, procedures and guidelines as well as actions that support team work, safety, efficiency, good housekeeping and GMP adherence are to be followed.

The ability to perform all the duties of the position and department is essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Company reserves the right to change or amend the position and essential duties as business necessitates.

1. Tend or operate machines that package product:

  • a. Machine set-up of profiles, film and materials.
  • b. Operate mechanism to load and/or cut filler product or packaging material.
  • c. Regulate machine flow, speed and/or temperature.
  • d. Start machine by engaging controls.
  • e. Trouble-shoot, stop or reset machine when malfunction occurs and clear machine jams.
  • f. Adjust machine tension, pressure and components accordingly to meet finished product specifications.
  • g. Observe machine operations to ensure quality and conformity of filled or packaged products to defined customer quality profile standards.
  • h. Remove finished packaged items from machine and separate rejected items.
  • i. Inspect and remove out-of-specification product and packaging material.
  • j. Stock packaging material for machine processing.
  • k. Test and evaluate product and verify product weight or measurement to ensure quality standards.
  • l. Clean, lubricate and make minor repairs to machinery and equipment; report more significant repairs or adjustments to maintenance.
  • m. Count and record finished and out-of-specification packaged items.
  • n. Maintain expected production levels to meet demand.
  • o. Perform preventative and basic maintenance as trained.


2. Keep work area clean, sweep, wash and remove waste and record it, as appropriate.

3. Provide back-up for other positions such as Sanitor or Baking Process Operator as needed.

4. May assist the Lead in accounting for, and when requested, coordinating the activities of temporary employees and their compliance with all policies on their line; and may help with non-line specific employed temps.

5. Recommend areas and potential solutions for improvement to appropriate departmental management to maintain a continuous improvement culture.

6. Protect team members and company safety and security through reporting and stopping occurrences such as damage to product and/or property, theft, product tampering and questionable behavior.

7. Maintain a positive working relationship with internal and external customers, and co-workers.

8. Arrive punctually on scheduled work days and be at the designated work area by start of shift to assure continuous work flow.

coders, gluing systems, computer terminals, overwrap machines, tape machine, hand tools for repairs, adjustments, packing related duties. Forklift, power lift truck and powered and non-powered hand jacks.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Management reserves the right to waive requirement(s) on a case-by-case review.

  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Be able to perform work related functions requiring ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Read, speak and understand the English language sufficient to interpret instructions, production sheets and work related documents, and solve problems.
  • Be able to solve diverse procedural problems within well-defined standards by choosing from workable alternatives.
  • Apply the appropriate use of the US dating system.
  • Be able to clearly communicate problems and malfunctions to co-workers and supervision.
  • Through prior education and / or hands on experience have knowledge, aptitude and understanding of :
  • Production and processing concepts of inputs, outputs, raw materials, waste, and quality.
  • Mechanics or mechanical aptitude of machines and tools, including their design and use; 2-3 years of prior process operator experience is ideal.
  • Computers and processing equipment including label printing and packaging control and scrap logs.
  • Be able to drive a forklift and/or operate power lift.
