The Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation is looking for a part-time, Administrative Specialist to join our team!
The Position
This position will work a flexible schedule, 15 - 18 hours per week, Monday – Friday between the hours of 8am-5pm. This position pays $25.00 per hour and offers an employer-matched retirement plan.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a down-to-earth yet professional communicator with a sense of humor and a passion for doing good in community. They are detail-oriented and organized; flexible and responsive; deadline-conscious and timely; and comfortable with technology. They work well alone and are self-motivated yet are equally as happy to work with a small team, supporting the organization’s work from behind the scenes.
Primary Responsibilities
1.) Online Data Management and Application System (50%):
- Tracking initial requests for funding through the process of inquiry, application, award and grant file closure;
- Formal correspondence with grantees and partners;
- Tech support for system users; and
- Collating meeting materials for board members.
2.) Administrative Support for Staff & Board, and General Office Management (30%):
- Organizing and maintaining paper grant and administrative files;
- Answering phones and welcoming guests;
- Managing incoming and outgoing mail;
- Ordering supplies and maintaining office equipment; and
- Other administrative duties as assigned.
3.) Online Communications Platforms (20%):
- Assisting with Foundation newsletters and annual reports;
- Frequent use of: Microsoft Office, Zoom, Google Drive, Word Press, MailChimp, Social Media Platforms
The Foundation
The Foundation manages approximately $30M in assets, grant $1M + annually to nonprofits, and operates a Scholarship Program for students from Cook County High School in Grand Marais.

We operate with a staff of two, and a board of nine. Our staff have long histories in the nonprofit sector and are committed and social-minded folks. Our board is comprised of well-versed, knowledgeable, and impressive leaders representing Cook, Lake, and St. Louis Counties, who bring a wealth of experience to our work.

An Expansion
This position marks an expansion for the Foundation. You will be joining at a time where new lines of communication and workload distribution will be in development as we move from a staff of two, to a staff of three. A period of transition is planned, and you will receive training from staff members well-versed in this work.
