Custodian

General Description:

Under general supervision from Maintenance Manager, maintains clean and safe facility at all times, performs custodial duties to include overall building, process, warehouse and administrative area cleaning maintenance and minor repair functions.

Principal Responsibilities:

Cleans, dusts, sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors by hand or machine; cleans carpet, upholstery and furniture. Washes windows, screens, sills, woodwork, doors, desks, walls, and ceilings. Responsible for assigned Work Orders, Cleans and sanitizes locker rooms, rest rooms, dusts and vacuums office areas, (may move equipment or office furniture) Utilizes scrubbing machine for floor cleaning, collects and disposes of trash can waste, properly manage recyclables, services minor outdoor clean up needs. Setting up and taking down tables and chairs for classes and programs. Executes policies and procedures professionally and accurately, practices excellent customer service, Performs other related or similar duties as required.

Qualifications:

• HS diploma preferred.
• Two (2) years' experience in custodial, building maintenance or general labor.
• Knowledge of cleaning compounds, custodial equipment, and basic tools utilized in building maintenance; some knowledge of maintenance and repair work; knowledge or aptitude for proper safety techniques and procedures.
• Ability to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions, make routine decisions independently, sustain long periods of light to moderately heavy physical activity, and work productively with others.
• Ability to perform some repairs and maintenance of buildings by patching walls and doors, painting walls and trim, and replacing fixtures and partitions; replaces damaged ceiling and floor tiles, repairs carpet a plus.
• Must comprehend English language fluently.
• Must be available to work second shift schedule.

Tools and Equipment Used:

Machine floor scrubbers, vacuum, mops, broom, dusting equipment and various hand tools.

Physical demands:

While performing duties of job, workers are constantly required to bend, lift, walk, or carry equipment. Employees must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, or occasionally transport up to 600 pounds on wheeled carts or dollies. This position may require changing shifts or working more than 8?? successive hours to meet occasional production or manpower demands.

Work environment:

Work may be performed under extreme outdoor weather conditions including hot and cold ambient temperatures, snow and rain. Workers will be required to work in a plant environment where there are constant moderate noise levels and occasional loud noise levels; and occasional hot or cold temperature extremes. Employees will be expected to work around, with, and adjacent to potentially dangerous equipment, chemicals, and processes. Workers would be expected to wear appropriate safety gear and follow all safety procedures for each situation as required. Job requirements will occasional dictate working over six feet above the floor or ground.
