Position Overview:

Within General Mills, our manufacturing facilities are committed to achieving zero human and food safety incidents and it is every employee's responsibility to fully support this vision. We are currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic. Skilled Mechanics are hired as members of a manufacturing team. They are responsible for the preventative and reactive maintenance of processing and packaging equipment within the manufacturing facility.

The General Mills-Chanhassen, MN plant operates 24 hours per day 7 days per week. This is a 2nd Shift position, 6:00 pm to 6:00 am. (On -off shift pattern 2 days on followed by 3 days off followed by 2 days on and followed by 2 days off on followed by 3 on.) Every other weekend is a 3 day weekend. There is an .80 cent an hour shift differential. Changes in volume and production requirements can result in changes in work schedule and additional overtime. Skilled Mechanics must be willing to work any shift including nights and weekends.

The starting wage for a Maintenance Mechanic position is $24.71 with periodic increases up to a rate of $30.89. General Mills also offers shift differential payment for those working off-shift. Additionally we offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and retirement benefits and 3 weeks' vacation.

  • $500 sign-on bonus (pre-tax)
    • $300 paid on your 1st paycheck
    • $200 paid upon successful completion of your orientation period (90 days)
    • Repayment is required if you leave within 12 months.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
  • Install, maintain, repair, and replace industrial processing and packaging machinery, work tools and equipment
  • Provide technical support and plant leadership for equipment troubleshooting and equipment modifications
  • Perform both uptime and down time preventative maintenance in adherence to the master PM schedule
  • Perform corrective maintenance work orders
  • Repair and maintain building utilities
  • Have the ability to learn and perform minor machining and welding tasks
  • Design and layout circuits, install fixtures, wiring conduits, motors, and other electrical equipment/components
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives in order to increase platform performance
  • Assist with training new employees as needed
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have the ongoing right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1+ years' experience in industrial maintenance or equivalent education in a related field
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including: standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces
  • Willing and able to work any shift schedule, including nights and weekends with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Willing and able to adhere to all safety standards and wear all necessary personal protective equipment
  • Willing and able to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems, pneumatic and hydraulic systems


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical degree in industrial maintenance or related field
  • Continuing education in maintenance/technical skills
  • Computer Maintenance Management System experience
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
