The Legal Services Consultant will, under the supervision of attorneys, provide assistance and support by gathering information, researching the law, and preparing opinions and legal documents, including regulatory submissions, for attorneys in the area of behavioral health. The role will involve contact with internal clients and may involve contact with external counsel and regulatory bodies.

Primary Responsibilities:

Under the direction and supervision of attorneys:

  • Researches statutes, regulations, and court decisions and prepares summaries of findings for attorneys
  • Review and analyze legislative bulletins for new/revised laws and conduct research as needed
  • Drafts generic, state-specific and/or client-specific contracts, including state regulatory appendices where appropriate
  • Communication with regulators for inquiries
  • Submits, tracks, monitors, and successfully concludes state and federal regulatory filings
  • Collaborates with attorneys and business partners to gather information involving legal matters
  • Drafts reports, position papers, and agreements for attorneys
  • Maintain regulatory and other legal filings
  • Drafts correspondence and other written documentation as required or necessary
  • Maintains organized records and adheres to strict deadlines
  • Assists with document retrieval, review, organization, and production
  • Anticipates customer and client needs and proactively develop solutions to meet them
  • Serves as a key resource on complex and/or critical issues
  • Solves complex problems and develops innovative solutions
  • Performs complex conceptual analyses
  • Reviews work performed by others and provides recommendations for improvement
  • Forecasts and plans resource requirements
  • May lead functional or segment teams or projects
  • Provides explanations and information to others on the most complex issues
  • Motivates and inspires other team members

    Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited two-year paralegal program, Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent experience
  • Paralegal Certification
  • 5+ years of paralegal experience, with preference for in-house legal department experience
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Adobe, Excel, and Access
  • Experience and ability to work efficiently in a face-paced environment with or without direct supervision and coordinate multiple projects
  • Experience and ability to collaborate across complex and matrixed organization
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to healthcare law
  • Exposure to healthcare related privacy laws
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills

    Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $64,800 to $116,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
