Ace Electrical Contractors currently has an excellent opportunity for a motivated Electrical Designer/Building Information Modeling (BIM) Specialist. This has an electrical focus and is responsible for designing and creating electrical construction documents for Ace Electrical projects and working through virtual design coordination efforts with other trades.

Responsibilities:

  • Take on electrical system design responsibilities of a project with minimal assistance from a senior level person, with the occasional assistance from a drafter
  • Design in a collaborative fashion with the project Estimator, Project Manager and Foreman
  • Coordinate with other trades such as Mechanical and Low Voltage through virtual design coordination efforts.
  • Attend client and design meetings


Qualifications:

  • Degree from a technical school in electrical construction/design or a degree in electrical engineering or architectural engineering
  • Preference will be given to candidates working in the electrical consulting engineering field or working for a design build electrical contracting firm
  • Project experience must include a variety such as shell, core office buildings, tenant build outs, hotels, multi-family apartment buildings, warehouses, manufacturing, labs, medical facilities, etc
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Revit. Minimum 1 year experience
  • Visibility/graphics settings; can set up views to show appropriate elements
  • Family functionality; can effectively use family types, instance parameters and type parameters
  • Annotation techniques; can efficiently annotate with tags and text
  • View templates; can create, modify and utilize
  • View filters; can create and modify basic filters
  • Revit schedules; can manipulate and troubleshoot schedules. Can create basic schedules to modify model elements or retrieve model information
  • 3D modeling; can accurately place families in a 3D model
  • 3D coordination; can identify and resolve spatial conflicts
  • Electrical functions such as circuiting and panelboard schedules. These skills are preferred, but for the right candidate they can be learned on the job
  • Can create Revit families. This would be a useful skill, but is not a minimum requirement for this position
  • Proactive learner. A desire to continuously improve and grow
  • Ability to perform lighting calculations using software such as Visual or AGI
  • Working knowledge of office programs such as MS Word and Excel
  • Working knowledge of codes such as NEC, IBC and the Minnesota Energy Code
