Position Information

OVERVIEW: Bismarck State College is dedicated to student success. This on-campus position is student-centered to provide high quality campus services and hands-on learning experiences.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Directly responsible to the Marketing and Creative Design Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Responsible for writing content to support enrollment efforts.
  1. Responsible for assisting in content strategy.
  1. Responsible for collaborating with the Marketing and Creative Design Manager, the Public Relations Manager, Production Coordinator, and internal stakeholders to insure consistent messaging, voice, style, and tone for all projects.
  1. Responsible for insuring content adheres to strategic plan, marketing, and brand standards.

Position Description & Details

Content Creation and Strategy - 95%
  1. Originate work or assist with writing, preparing, proof reading and editing projects; including, but not limited to ads, billboards, videos, website, print collateral, social media, press releases, fact sheets, reports, newsletters, and email.
  1. Create unique, simple-to-understand, user-friendly content.
  1. Assist in identifying, developing, and implementing the best approach for writing and coordinating BSC's strategic communication messages across internal and external communication channels including the BSC website, intranet, MERIT, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and other social media.
  1. Monitor and manage messages to ensure brand messaging and AP style is consistent in written content.
  1. Manage a library of facts and resources to be used for collateral material.
  1. Perform content audits and work to improve website content flow and relevance.
  1. Support BSC's content marketing strategies, planning, and content calendars.
  1. Identify content needs for photography, video, and graphic assets across digital channels.
  1. Conduct content fact and data checking with key subject matter experts.
  1. Assists with special marketing events, projects, and strategic initiatives.

Miscellaneous Duties - 5%
  1. Stays abreast of industry standards and innovation through a commitment to ongoing professional development to remain current in the fields of communications, content strategy, social media and issues affecting higher education.
  1. Serves, at all times, as a champion and advocate of Bismarck State College through excellent communications skills.
  1. Serves as a member of campus committees, workgroups and professional organizations as needed.
  1. Promotes innovation, creativity, and ideas to improve and enhance processes, functions, etc. in the department and as a whole for the college.
  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Occasionally - 1-33% - Reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop/kneel/crouch or crawl, taste, or smell, or lift up to 50 pounds.


Minimum Requirements

  1. Associate's degree in communications, English, marketing or related field and 2 years of experience in marketing, public relations, or a similar position.
  2. Strong copy writing and editing skills for a variety of mediums and platforms.
  1. Strong research skills.
  1. Excellent proofreading and fact-checking skills.
  1. Ability and willingness to take on projects in unfamiliar areas and can acclimate quickly.
  1. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  1. Ability and desire to work both independently and collaboratively.
  1. Attentiveness to detail and well organized.
  1. Ability to multi-task and produce solid copy on a regular, timely basis.
  1. Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word.
  1. Ability to adhere to deadlines.


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in communications, English, marketing, or related field.
  2. More than 2 years of experience in marketing, public relations, or a similar position.
  3. Experience working in higher education.
