Tank Farm Operator

Your Role:

The Tank Farm Operator at MilliporeSigma is primarily responsible for managing the Tank Farm inventory and the Pipe Bridge operations. The Operator is the key person helping to ensure all site operations have 1) a continuous supply of solvent chemicals and 2) available capacity to received and store spent solvents. Other duties may include but are not limited to; duties under the Stormwater Management plan, Spill Control plan, Hazardous Waste Operations and Recycling efforts performed within the Environmental Services Department tasked to manage the wastes and wastewaters generated by chemical manufacturing and operating groups.
  • Maintains appropriate records as directed by department management
  • Works to improve processes, control costs and correct safety hazards
  • Loads waste into trucks and/or tankers and unloads clean solvent tankers
  • Monitors, and Schedules tank farm raw materials to provide commodity materials for uninterrupted service to Production
  • Performs job-related functions in SAP to support tank farm operations
  • Schedules shipments of Used Solvents, PPE and Empty Drums to maintain available storage
  • Prepares wastes for off-site shipment
  • Works to ensure waste is processed and disposed of in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Executes and/or processes shipping paperwork including waste manifests
  • Monitors used solvents disposal parameters to help ensure acceptance and manage surcharges
  • Issues hot work and line entry permits as necessary for servicing and maintaining the Tank Farm and pipe bridge
  • Ensures equipment is locked and tagged out for safe work
  • Coordinates Tank Farm projects with site management and contractors
  • Evaluates and prepares Storm Water data and reports for management
  • Conducts and documents weekly Hazardous Waste inspections and records follow up actions
  • Initiates cross departmental process improvements, participates in training programs, Emergency Response Team, Safety Committee, etc.
  • Trains and mentors co-workers and new employees
  • Writes and revises SOPs
  • Maintains a clean, orderly and compliant work area
Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Basic math and computer skills including experience with Windows, Word and Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Lab Packing Experience
  • Previous HAZ MAT/DOT Certificate/Training
  • Experience with tanker loading/unloading
  • Ability to troubleshoot and correct problems independently
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Accountable for quality of own work
  • Troubleshooting based on practice, existing precedents or procedures
  • Uses discretion to modify work practices and processes to achieve results or improve efficiency
  • Ability to work within a broad range of guidelines

Days/Hours: M-F, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM
