JOB SUMMARY
The Product Safety Test Engineer will work with New Product Development (NPD) and continuation engineering functions. In addition, they will interact with outside test and government agencies. This role independently conducts tests, gathers and analyzes data, and writes reports to published safety standards generally for Laboratory Equipment. Establish standard and custom testing setups to meet ongoing needs. At all times, maintain a high level of safe work practices to insure the safety of yourself and others.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supports testing of electrical/electronic devices to key National and International safety standards (such as 61010-1 and 60601-1)
  • Gathers and uses critical thinking to analyze data.
  • Generates technical test reports supporting internal customers and external regulatory and government agencies.
  • Designs standard and custom test setups to meet standards.
  • Maintains test lab space and equipment, ensuring that equipment is calibrated and maintained on set schedules.
  • Be accountable for accurate and timely release of test data to customers, including sign-offs of quality control data as acceptable.
  • Responsible for managing own work flow within company priorities.
  • Offers solutions to development teams to meet standards.
  • Applies problem solving skills to new and unfamiliar engineering problems and obtain guidance in non-routine situations.
  • Responsible for providing strong documentation on project work.
  • Works cooperatively with internal and external customers.
  • Follows all safety guidelines and reports unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. If a Master's Degree in Engineering is held, substitutions may be made for the Bachelor's degree
  • 3-5 years of engineering experience
  • Experience performing testing to international standards
  • Knowledge of engineering fundamentals, engineering tools and software experimental methods;
  • Knowledge of IEC safety standards and how they are written.
  • An understanding of and ability to read electrical schematics is required.
  • Operation of lab equipment including power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, etc.....
DESIRED:
  • Experience performing safety tests IEC/UL/EN 61010-1 or IEC/UL/EN 60601-1
  • Knowledge of IEC/UL/EN 61010-1or IEC/UL/EN 60601-1
