Dakota Wesleyan University is seeking a full time, live-in, Resident Director (RD) with a start date of no later than August 1, 2021. The RD will support the mission and goals of the university and the goals and objectives of Residence Life in particular. The RD will supervise and mentor a team of undergraduate Resident Assistants in an assigned Residence Hall. The RD will also be assigned a specific duty (or duties) in support of the university's mission and goals outside of his or her RD role. Examples of duties might include (but are not limited to) Advisor for the Tigers Activity Group, International Student Coordinator, etc. This is a 10 month position.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree.
  • Have demonstrable, successful experiences working in higher education.
  • Have experience with best practices in working with an on-campus student population.
  • Be committed to leading and mentoring undergraduate students.

Essential, ongoing responsibilities associated with the position include:

  • Assume a leadership role and serve as a role-model for residents.
  • Responsible for community development, management, and overall operations of an on campus residential housing complex.
  • Directly supervise and mentor a team of 3-6 undergraduate Resident Assistants.
  • Conduct weekly team meetings with assigned Resident Assistants.
  • Participate in on-call, on-duty rotation schedule with other RD and ARD staff.
  • Provide necessary reports to the University Housing Office, (e.g. occupancy, incident, fire, inventory, evaluations, change cards, etc.).
  • Maintain records for each resident, i.e. personal data, check-in/check- out record, key cards, discipline.
  • Participate in the selection, training, and evaluation of Resident Assistants.
  • Assist in the planning, development, coordination, and assessment of programs to provide meaningful educational, personal, social, and recreational experiences.
  • Know and enforce campus and community policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the coordination of move-in/move-out procedures.
  • Serve on committees as necessary.
  • Maintain and apply appropriate knowledge of residence hall safety and security through ensuring doors are locked and in working condition, fire alarms and fire extinguisher are in working condition.
  • Promptly report all maintenance needs.
  • Engage in all ongoing and appropriate professional development activities.
