COSTUME SHOP SUPERVISOR JOB DESCRIPTION

COSTUME SHOP SUPERVISOR - Part Time

The Theatre NDSU costume shop is open Monday through Friday from 1-5 pm during the fall and spring semesters (August 15 to May 15)

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Costume Shop Manager is responsible for the daily operation, safety, organization, and management of the costume shop.

Primary Duties:
  • Constructing and/or altering costume elements while meeting production deadlines;
  • hiring, managing, training, and supervision of student workers;
  • oversight of production purchases and adherence to provided budgets
  • Communication with the student, faculty, or guest costume designers, directors, and stage managers regarding costume details, fittings, cleaning, maintenance, and troubleshooting;
  • Implementing and enforcing health and safety protocol; ensuring a safe, secure, and clean work environment.
  • Stocking appropriate supplies and maintaining general organization of the work and storage spaces.
  • Supports the costume shop's efforts in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for our diverse student population.

Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Training and experience in sewing and pattern development.
  • The ability to work with and be sensitive to the education needs of a diverse student body.
  • Energy, flexibility, patience, and ability to work with students at all levels.
  • Good interpersonal skills.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a theatrical costume shop (professional or academic.)
  • Costume crafts experience (fabric dyeing or painting, millenary, foam construction etc)
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of costume history
  • Familiarity with historical aspects of costume: construction methods, fabrics, patterning.
  • Knowledge of sewing machine functions and maintenance
  • Familiarity with local and national suppliers of costuming materials
  • Computer literacy, aptitude with MS Office products, accounting fundamentals, and scheduling.
  • Knowledge in the areas of Theatre practice, dramatic literature and theatre history,
