Position Summary:

A full-time postdoctoral research fellow position is available at the Department of Plant Sciences at North Dakota State University (NDSU), Fargo. The successful candidate will work in the USDA-ARS Fargo Genotyping Laboratory and should have experience in wheat genetics, wheat pathology, molecular genotyping, physical mapping, breeding/marker assisted selection, next-generation sequencing, and bioinformatics. The candidate will work on developing a pan-genome of wheat sources of resistance to Fusarium Head Blight (FHB). The candidate will manage wheat lines under greenhouse and field conditions, screen wheat lines for resistance to FHB in the greenhouse, extract DNA/RNA, and prepare sequencing libraries. The fellow will be highly active in the analysis of a large amount of sequencing data on High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters and work on methods to identify haplotypes that are associated with resistance to disease. The position is for two years with possibility of extension subject to performance and funding availability.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A PhD in genetics, plant sciences, plant pathology or related fields is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment .
  • Demonstrated ability in a scripting language (bash or python) are also required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Expertise with FHB screening in wheat, sequencing library generation, data processing on HPC clusters, and analysis of genomes with graph-based methods.
  • Fellow must be able to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.

Advertised salary: $45,000 +
