Job Summary

The Senior Systems Engineer actively works with enterprise architecture and management to install, harden, maintain, configure and assure the integrity of systems, software, and enterprise applications. This role provides advanced system administration functions for local and remote systems, including user, system and application administration, automation, patch management, backup and restore, capacity/log monitoring, clustering, replication, migration, SaaS, PaaS and IaaS with an emphasis on Microsoft Cloud technologies. This position directs and reviews activities of other IT personnel on various projects, ensures long-term requirements of systems operations and administration are included in the overall information systems planning of the organization and creates and maintains disaster recovery and business continuity plans for responsible systems. In addition, this position mentors and coaches less experienced administrators.

This position allows for telecommuting/ remote work.

Essential Functions
  • Designs, architects, builds, hardens, maintains and troubleshoots new and legacy technology. Frequently works with appropriate staff to plan and implement the integration of complex technology within the on-premises or cloud-based environment.
  • Leads and/or actively participates in investigating, evaluating and implementing integrated solutions within time and budget constraints.
  • Defines goals and action items and represents the team on assigned technical projects, ensuring success of the project. Communicates with leadership to provide planned project updates or to report urgent or critical issues and may assign or delegate project tasks as deemed necessary for the success of the project. Fosters and supports good working relationships with project managers, project members, and vendors. Provides superior technical guidance within the confines of the project.
  • Integrates infrastructure services with applications and/or hardware into the overall information security infrastructure. Analyzes and researches complex technical problems and takes corrective action to minimize current and future impact to the company.
  • Carries out advanced-level work with regards to incidents, changes, problems, requests, etc.
  • Follows IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) processes for managing, documenting and delivering services to include problem resolution, changes to users and permissions, documenting changes, configuration items and problem management.
  • Implements upgrades and applies security patches and bug fixes to maintain a current and secure posture. Works closely with vendors for application support and coordinates testing and validation of changes to the operating system or application with the business to ensure the system performs as expected upon completion of the maintenance.
  • Prepares material for and provides proof for audits as required. Generates system output needed for audits and meets to provide context and explanation. Researches and resolves issues as needed for internal departments. Validates output from system scans or offers suggestions to fix false positives within the report.
  • Maintains superior, up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of industry best practices. Analyzes and conducts research to make recommendations on complex business requirements.
  • Serves as a senior technical resource and provides technical guidance to internal staff. Coaches and mentors less experienced and developing staff.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's

Field(s) of Study: Information Technology, Computer Science or related field

 

Experience Requirements

Required: Minimum of 5 Years

Preferred: Minimum of 7 Years

Experience Details: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in ServiceNow, enterprise level hardware, software, and application management and Windows systems administration is required.
