Job Summary:
Provides reception and registration services for the lab. Obtains appropriate specimens for testing by collecting blood and culture specimens from patients in an outpatient clinic setting.
Job Description:
Principle Responsibilities
- Collects and obtains satisfactory specimen samples.
- Verifies orders and identifies correct patient.
- Identifies and uses appropriate collection method to obtain samples for testing (venipuncture or capillary puncture).
- Instructs patients accurately on procedures and protocols.
- Labels specimen correctly.
- Enters data into computer, completes paperwork and documentation accurately and timely.
- Assesses and reacts effectively to unique patient needs.
- Follows all procedures, protocols and federal regulations for assigned work area.
- Prepares and maintains supplies to efficiently collect specimens.
- Stocks, rotates and requests phlebotomy supplies (as assigned) on a regular basis to ensure proper availability in the work area in order to maximize efficient customer service.
- Properly disposes of expired supplies per guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- High School or GED with specific training in phlebotomy, including internship required
- Less than 2 years in phlebotomy preferred
- Phlebotomy - Kronos Skill required or
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants required within 180 Days
- BLS Tier 1 - Basic Life Support - Multisource preferred within 180 Days
