Description

This position reports to the Operations Commander under the Associate Vice President for Public Safety and Chief of Police.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Patrol all University property to enforce traffic laws, criminal laws, public service rules and regulations in our jurisdiction to include mutual aid provisions and extended jurisdiction.
  • Issue warnings, citations and/or arrests for criminal and traffic law violators.
  • Perform initial investigations on traffic and criminal violations and perform follow-up as assigned.
  • Work with the States Attorney Office and local court systems; must be able to render credible testimony in a court of law.
  • Locates and secure in custody all evidence.
  • Prepare reports for/on criminal, traffic, investigative, and various assigned projects.
  • Monitor University parking lots and residential streets for parking violations.
  • Assist other agencies with various requests.
  • Investigate traffic accidents and hit and run reports. Take measurements, interview those involved, call towing services, ambulances and in some cases, notify next of kin.
  • Respond to all medical assists, fire and hazardous material, etc., calls to include coordinating initial scene and any evacuations that would be necessary.
  • Provide talks and presentations on safety, alcohol and drug awareness, assistance programs, winter safety, self protection, sexual assault awareness and any other programs as requested by the University community and the general public.
  • Provide fingerprinting services to students and staff.
  • Provide light checks on UND campus.
  • Provide a 24 hour escort service to the University community.
  • Assist in the investigations of aircraft accidents involving UND aircraft when possible.
  • To provide adequate buildings and ground security by use of foot, bike and building patrols. This would include stair climbing and up to seven miles of walking. Requires a familiarity with buildings, fire alarm locations and exits. Noting and reporting improperly lit areas, or unsecured accesses to appropriate personnel. Securing those areas of assigned responsibility. Briefing of personnel and dissemination of information regarding unusual occupancies, events and other information regarding that area. Occasionally perform building security officer duties to secure UND buildings for nights/weekends according to provided schedules. Provide access to buildings for authorized individuals when requested.
  • Day shift officers transfer cash, checks from the Business Office and the bank.
  • Carry out duties and assignments given by superior officers.

Minimum Requirements

  • Equivalent of 2 year college in criminal justice or related field
  • Has met licensing requirements or is eligible (out-of-state certification) to become a certified ND peace officer
  • Polygraph exam

  • Meet vision requirements
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Subject to FBI background check
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$45,622.50/year, Full-Time, Benefited, Non-Exempt

Work Schedule/Start Date

Includes working nights and weekends.
