The Chemical Regulatory Engineer provides leadership and technical resources to ensure compliance with global regulations, laws, and directives that address the chemical content of articles as well as the regulations that impact the use and distribution of chemical substances in products marketed by the company. Promotes and educates company personnel on the requirements of global chemical laws and regulations.

Role & Responsibility

  • ​​​​ Maintains knowledge of all applicable regulations, laws and directives regarding chemical and environmental compliance that affect the company’s products to ensure compliance. 
  • Assists company in understanding and carrying out chemical compliance activities such as product labeling, reporting, registration, etc. 
  • Continuous collaboration with Engineering and Supply Management.  
  • Manages process to monitor and report any instances of security breaches 
  • Plan, drive, design, develop, document, measure, analyze and improve the business’s chemical compliance processes globally and regionally 
  • Provides technical resource for integrating chemical compliance regulations into new/existing product designs and processes. 
  • Identifies at-risk components and communicates with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Management, and Aftermarket Services to implement appropriate substitutions. 
  • Creates and manages product chemical compliance documentation. 
  • Develops and executes appropriate record retention policy for compliance documentation according to company policies. 
  • Generates responses to support inquiries from governmental authorities and customers 
  • Supports the in-house legal staff in defense of any potential non-compliance claims related to chemical content or emissions from company’s products. 
  • Provides input on interpretation of regulatory requirements, operational impact consideration, and methods to implement requirements. 
  • Define Program and Project plans necessary to reach roadmap goals, including 
  • Process and Integration scope 
  • Resource & competence requirements 
  • Project Budget approvals 
  • Serves on project implementation teams implementing alternative chemical substances 
  • Leads process training sessions with the Solution Experts and Maintenance Support 

 

Job Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in General Engineering, including Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Environmental  
  • Experience with regulatory compliance activities involving a manufacturing business 
  • 5 – 10 years of related experience 
  • Travel Standard < 25% 
  • Experience coordinating projects to identify and implement alternative material substances for components 
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, laws, and directives regarding chemical substances found in the business products  
  • Project Management implementing technological solutions 
  • Experience with Internal Database Solutions, i.e. Microsoft Sharepoint and Teams 
  • Understanding of design, manufacturing, and procurement processes 
  • Ability to analyze and design data collection and analytical processes  
  • Ability to develop product requirements based on input gathered from a variety of sources including analysis results and feedback from stakeholders  
  • Ability to develop test conditions and expected results based on the application requirements  
  • Ability to review project deliverables for completeness and quality, and compliance with established project standards 
  • Proven experience identifying and managing technical risks 
  • Experience with BI & Analytics 
  • Analytical mindset and problem solver 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English 
  • Highly computer literate 
  • Willing to work with distributed and multi-cultural teams 

 Desired: 
  • Participation in Standards Committees (ISO, SAE, etc.) and the US Federal or European Union regulatory development process involving subjects such as chemical regulations and/or off-highway vehicle regulations
  • Experience implementing and/or maintaining a chemical compliance program in an off-highway manufacturing business
  • Knowledge and working experience with Information Material Data Systems (IMDS), Compliance Data Exchange (CDX), or Assent Compliance or equivalent a plus
