Position Information

POSITION: Research Specialist

APPOINTMENT: Full-time, 12-month (100% research responsibilities)

LOCATION: School of Natural Resource Sciences, North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND

POSITION DESCRIPTION: NDSU seeks a research specialist in wildlife ecology to work as part of a collaborative team to support research in North Dakota agroecosystems. The successful candidate will be expected to collect, analyze, and interpret data on projects investigating wildlife responses to disturbance, land-use change, and anthropogenic influences. This candidate will also be expected to lead and support grant writing for future research opportunities. A list of potential responsibilities include:

· Assisting graduate students with data collection and analysis

· Organize, analyze, and interpret data

· Write peer-reviewed manuscripts

· Apply for competitive grants

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· A M.S. degree in range science, wildlife ecology, natural resource management, or a closely related discipline

· Proficiency in most or all of the following programs: R, or similar analytical program, Program MARK, Program Distance, ArcGIS

· Demonstrated ability to publish findings in refereed scientific journals

· Excellent oral and written communication skills

· Ability to lead and supervise a team of range and wildlife technicians

· Valid drivers' license for operation of motor vehicles in the U.S.

· Willingness and ability to conduct field work under weather conditions and terrain typical of North Dakota outdoor landscapes, and ability to lift 50 lbs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Experience conducting prescribed fire

· Experience in and willingness to develop collaborative research projects including the potential to collaborate with NDSU research and extension centers

· Experience with range and wildlife research equipment

· Experience collecting data on pollinators
