Job Summary
The Patient Receptionist serves by greeting customers as they arrive in the department, and answers questions. This position answers telephone, routes calls, maintains information and communicates messages. The receptionist effectively performs data entry and retrieval, completes documentation, verifies complete patient identification, and processes patients/specimen. This position participates in service area quality improvement initiatives and completes all required documentation.
Essential Job Functions
Serves as a receptionist by greeting patients/customers as they arrive in the department, answers questions and coordinates patient/customer visit. Organizes and prioritizes activities to accomplish workload and maintaining a neat and orderly workstation.
Engages in courteous communication that supports business operations through verbal, written, and other appropriate means.
Provides clear instruction to the patient for specimen collection. Retrieves, sorts and routes specimens and verifies complete patient identification and information on requisition and specimen. Processes patient/specimens i.e., admitting, order entry, ABN determination.
Schedules patients for laboratory procedures i.e. outpatients, and nursing home.
Processes laboratory and patient reports i.e., printing, recording, distributing, faxing, filing, retrieval, etc.
Recognizes problems, investigates and troubleshoots, takes corrective action, documents problems and corrective action taken, and notifies supervisor in a timely manner.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
