A client of ours is seeking a Design Engineer with an injection molding background who would be interested in developing new products for firearms owners. As a Design Engineer, you will primarily be charged with executing the full ramp-up process based on project briefs and extensive brainstorming & research. This includes presenting phase-gate updates to the product development team, possibly (no - probably) changing direction mid-stream and executing the final deliverables - so the usual stuff you've probably been doing. Projects can include developing blue sky concepts, CAD design using SolidWorks, and preparing engineering release packages for our Asian factories. The Design Engineers report to the Vice President of Product Development. These roles will work closely with our industrial designers and cross functional product development team in both Minnesota and China. This is a direct hire position located in Plymouth, MN.

Position Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in design engineering or a similar engineering discipline. This position WILL NOT be designing fixtures and automation equipment. You will be designing consumer products and must understand those demands (finish, color, fitment, snaps, joining methods, packaging etc.)
  • MUST have at least 5 years of design engineering and execution experience. We're currently considering qualified junior and senior design engineers (but not recent graduates).
  • MUST have SolidWorks experience designing plastic products. You understand draft angles, slides, gates, knockout pins and parting lines. You will know the difference between polypropylene and polycarbonate. If you don't have experience designing plastic products this is not the job for you.
  • Must be able to manage a large number of projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with multiple materials & processes is absolutely required: Injection molding, casting, machining, stamping. This position requires a broad range of experience in engineering consumer products. We are not looking for a specialist in a single process.
  • MUST be comfortable handling firearms and firearm components. Research may occur at gun ranges or firearm shops.
