New Flyer is seeking an energetic and results-oriented individual to lead a 40 person production department in its best-in-class bus manufacturing facility on our 1st shift. The ideal candidate has 3+ years of front-line supervisory experience, preferably in production, assembly, or manufacturing. Experience leading in a Lean culture is highly desired.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for leading the production cell in achieving key safety, quality, delivery and cost goals. Effective teamwork with other department and development of employees are required to successfully fulfill the goals of the position.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Effectively lead, engage, coach, mentor and develop a team of up to 40 union employees within production department by ensuring employee concerns are addressed, employee reviews are completed on time, and maintaining employee time and attendance records and vacation schedules.
  • Demonstrate Lean Leadership by leading effective daily meetings with employees, other departments and superintendents and ensuring production department completes continuous improvement projects.
  • Support all company safety initiatives by driving reductions in OSHA recordable and lost time incidents, ensure daily safety audits are completed, and enforce all safety policies and ensure all employees are trained in safe work procedures.
  • Drive first-time quality within production department with effective execution of self-inspection processes, utilizing New Flyer's Quality Assurance System (QAS), and facilitate activity to ensure all required materials and tools are available to support first-time quality.
  • Achieve build-in-station (BIS) targets and limit out-of-station work with development and execution of cross-training plans, allocate labor daily to support the bus configurations, and supporting New Flyer's Operations Excellence (OPEX) program.
  • Support the administration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, ensuring compliance is maintained and understanding the Cell Leader's role in the grievance process.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related discipline from a four-year college or university; or three to five years of related experience in manufacturing or assembly environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable
  • Three to five years previous supervisor experience in a fast-paced manufacturing/production environment preferred. Prior Lean Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate, establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to accept challenges in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and a self-starter that is motivated to achieve tasks within set timelines
  • Elementary mechanical aptitude with ability to read blueprints
