Northshore Mining Company, a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc., is a taconite mining and processing facility located in Northern Minnesota. The mining facility is located in Babbitt, MN, and the processing plant is located in Silver Bay, MN, on the north shore of Lake Superior.We have periodic openings for Plant Operations Technicians. Although we may not have an immediate opening, we are always accepting applications for this position.Due to the large volume of applications received, only those chosen for further consideration may be contacted.The primary function of this position is to operate and maintain all plant equipment associated with the production of taconite pellets in a self-directed work environment. Requirements for this position include, but are not limited to: Minimum of a 2-year post-secondary degree or 4-year post-secondary degree, OR 4-year apprenticeship in related work, OR 4-years full-time military history with directly related work experience (Part-time military only considered if candidate has at least 2 years of full-time deployment with work experience applicable to position), OR 2 years of directly related full-time work experience. 2-year post-secondary degrees in mining industrial technology, electrical, industrial, mechanical, maintenance, heavy equipment maintenance is preferred. Work experience in an industrial environment is preferred. Excellent safety record and genuine concern for safety in the workplace. Excellent attendance record. Good troubleshooting skills. Proven mechanical aptitude. Must be able to recognize upset conditions, determine cause, and then take corrective action. Technicians perform a wide variety of tasks such as replacing idlers and scrapers, replacing oil pumps, chute repairs, minor plumbing, cutting & welding, repairing cyclones and pan feeders, belt replacement, minor pipefitting, conveyor alignment, and general clean up. Must have an exceptional work ethic, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work in a self-directed team environment. Must be able to use a computer. Must be willing to work rotating shifts. 2 years of mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial environment is preferred. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
