Your Opportunity

Wenck, now part of Stantec, is seeking an entry-level Water Resources Engineer/Scientist for our Fargo office who is highly motivated to join us in continuing to grow our reputation as a leader in environmental services throughout the Midwest and Great Plains. This position would be working with our Natural Resources team, assisting with design components of wetland and natural resources restoration. On a day-to-day basis, our natural resource team members also create databases and analyze field data, natural resource restoration plans, wetland mitigation plans, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, permit applications and other technical reports; evaluate data and create maps using ArcGIS; coordinate with local, state, federal agencies; agricultural producers, and communicate with our clients. Our team works on a variety of different projects, while specializing in their passion and building a well-rounded base of experience. As a member of our team, you will be contributing to our existing services in the region focused on federal and state agencies, municipalities, private developers, transportation, and agricultural industries. Stantec, as a team member of the Red River Valley Alliance, has been selected to complete the design, construction and operation of the Fargo-Moorhead Flood Diversion Project. This multifaceted project will offer unique long term career opportunities, and our environmental team is expected to grow along with the needs of this significant project. The preferred candidate will be able to periodically travel throughout this region, while maintaining their primary presence in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Field surveys

  • Data collection and analysis

  • Prepare technical reports and permit applications

  • Design and Preparation of Grading Plans using AutoCAD Design

  • Evaluate data and edit maps using ArcGIS or AutoCAD online software

  • Hydrology and Hydraulic Modeling

  • Coordinate with local, state and federal agencies on permits and approvals

  • Provide technical expertise and planning for wetland restoration projects

  • Internal and external client correspondence

  • Qualifications

    Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Desire and ability to work efficiently

  • Oral communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate with internal and external clients

  • Ability to work in adverse weather and environmental conditions

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including databases, spreadsheets, and word processing

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team

  • Experienced in AutoCAD program

  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software (HydroCAD, XPSWMM, etc.)

  • Strong analytical skills, and attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with both clients and project team members

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at once and meet strict project deadlines.

  • Ability to travel regionally and locally as required

  • Driver's license with clean driving record

  • Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Water Resource, Agricultural or Environmental Engineering, or related field

  • Previous work experience or internship with environmental engineering related field a plus

  • Experience in field sampling techniques and using scientific equipment preferred

  • Background in wetland science or water resources engineering preferred

  • Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Periodic overnight travel (most frequently during May to October)
