Milwaukee Cylinder is a manufacturer of durable, high-end tie rod cylinders and automated test stand load frames, located in Cudahy WI. Summary - Basic Function of the Position
This position is a diverse engineering role with the primary responsibility of quoting custom cylinders, power units, and test stands, and working on various NPD projects. Regarding quoting, customs' work will include interfacing with customer service and the customer to understand the application; developing, analyzing, and finalizing a concept; interfacing with our costing software, manufacturing engineering, suppliers, and our supply chain to create a costed BOM; and utilizing our customs management software to track and document the quote. Once the PO is received, you will advise our design team on creating detailed drawings for customer approval and offer manufacturing technical support as required.
Regarding NPD, Milwaukee Cylinder intends to expand its offerings towards adjacent component technologies as well as downstream integrated products. Your role will include interpreting VOC needs, developing concepts, testing & validating concepts, and then commercializing the concepts. Specification regarding hydraulic circuits, including controls technology will be required.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Custom Quoting: 70% of workload
? Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent; Mechanical design experience is a plus.
Experience Requirements: 10 years engineering experience, preferably cylinder and/or hydraulic experience; PC skills including CAD software (preferably CREO) and FEA; Excellent verbal communication skills; Hydraulic control design.
Physical Demands: Occasionally will have to conduct lab work involving moving samples and operating lab equipment. May require lifting up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment: Cubical environment
Travel: 5%

Job Duties and Responsibilities

- Work with customers and customer service to understand their applications
- Develop concepts to accomplish customer needs
- Analyze concept to ensure performance is within safety factor norms
- Work with supply chain and directly with vendors to understand cost and availability of components
- Develop costed BOMs, concept drawings, and CAD models
- Work with designers to convert concept to manufacturing drawings
- Work with quoting system to manage customs from concept, to costing, to pricing, to releasing for manufacturing.
- Assist in developing product and technology roadmaps
- Participate in VOC, and assist in developing marketing requirements
- Convert marketing requirements to technical requirements
- Create and analyze concepts vs. marketing & technical requirements
- Create detailed drawings - as needed
- Work with shop to build prototypes
- Develop test protocol and execute tests to validate product/prototype performance
- Project manage development process form VOC to commercialization.
- Assist customer service and customers in pre-sale, post sale, and warranty issues.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues, communicating as required
- Assist manufacturing in technical questions
- Assist in evaluating return goods
- Develop training material
- Lead technical product training live or via webinar
- Computer skills of Microsoft Office
- Ability to work with engineering document management tools
- Ability to use 2D/3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as PTC Creo or AutoCAD, or Solidworks
- Ability to analyze designs through FEA, hoop stress analysis, column strength analysis, internal bearing loads, and rod sag calculations
- Ability to design cylinder control systems utilizing position, pressure and load sensors.
- Ability to work with control software to drive cylinder functions based on sensor and HMI input
- Ability to understand and quote hydraulic pumps and circuits
- Ability to assemble and disassemble cylinders, analyze cylinder forensic evidence, and successfully execute root cause analysis of cylinder issues
- Ability to manage concurrent projects independently and in a team environment
- Strong organizational, written, oral and professional skills
- Ability to work directly with customers to understand their applications
- Adept at analyzing problems, identifying key issues and implementing solutions
- Must be results driven and capable of working in a fast paced, high performance environment.
- Independent decision making and problem solving skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a matrix organization to identify issues, gain consensus, and implement solutions.
