Job Summary
The Senior DevOps Engineer is responsible for the tooling and automation of the deployment, monitoring, and management of Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota’s (BCBSND) services and applications. This role provides operational support to the engineering teams responsible for BCBSND’s applications and partners with them to ensure requirements around compliance and availability are met. The Senior DevOps Engineer serves as a technical expert responsible for administering, managing, and continuously improving BCBSND’s infrastructure and application platforms.
This position allows for telecommuting.

Experience Requirements
Required: Minimum of 5 Years
Preferred: Minimum of 7 Years
Experience Details: Minimum of 5 years of of experience in automating build, deployment, and test automation for infrastructure, applications, and services or related experience required. Experience with Microsoft Windows, Virtualization, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ansible Engine, Ansible Tower, GitLab, Visual Studio Code, Python and PowerShell preferred.
Certification, Licensures & Registration Requirements
Title: Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert, Red Hat Certified Engineer, or Red Hat Certified Specialist in Advanced Automation: Ansible Best Practices certifications preferred
State or Agency: Microsoft, Red Hat
Equivalent combination of education, experience or training determined to be acceptable by Human Resources may be substituted, unless regulated by contract or program standards

Essential Functions
- Implements and maintains continuous integration, continuous deployment, test automation, and infrastructure as code processes.
- Demonstrates a solid understanding of source control management. Stays well informed on new technologies and engineering concepts. Stays abreast of recent developments in related technical community, including new technology and business news that may impact vendors’ ability to provide service.
- Leads the analysis and design of complex solutions and requirements definition, including translating technical and business requirements into physical installations, costing design elements, and obtaining agreement to proposed solutions.
- Ensures efficiency, quality, and resiliency of the integrations.
- Collaborates with the business, third party vendors, developers, application support, and technical operations groups to determine appropriate hardware/software needs and resolves any issues impacting the application processes.
- Takes ownership of the execution and completion of larger projects and the ongoing operation and overall responsibility of critical systems.
- Contributes to the department roadmap and project planning process and partners with stakeholders to develop business objectives and translate into action.
- Trains and mentors existing staff and clearly explains solutions to complex problems. Demonstrates the ability to lead and effectively conveys knowledge to other departmental staff performing related duties.
- Leads initiatives to reduce incident rates and works with all levels of operations to improve service recovery times.
