Job Details

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

● Selecting and editing national wire news and features, along with company produced content, for use online, in print and in company e-editions.

● Editing and selecting stories for Forum Communications digital editions, including story counts and page placement.

● Working with page designers on completion of print and e-paper editions.

● Proofing pages of daily and weekly newspapers using InDesign, and working with the FCC Design Hub to ensure all publications are distinctive, accurate and error-free.

● Ensuring production deadlines are met.

● Ensuring that story headlines capture the tone and impact of the story without compromising accuracy. Headlines should be eye-catching and appropriate for the story and publishing platform.

● Verifying facts, dates and statistics for stories being edited.

● Embracing a creative, collaborative approach with other team members and in working with other FCC departments and locations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

● Experience at a newspaper, website, magazine or similar publication is required.

● Design experience is preferred.

● Experience in proofreading or editing is required.

● Journalism or communications degree is helpful, though equivalent experience will be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

● Must be able to multitask and juggle many different projects in a fast-paced environment.

● This position requires news judgment and creativity.

● Ability to work quickly and accurately using a Web-based content management system.

● Must be creative, hardworking and a self-starter.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

● Regularly required to sit, stand, talk, hear, use hands and fingers, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance and stoop.

● Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

● Required to use close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
