Job Summary
The Nurse Co-op is responsible for utilizing the nursing process to assist in providing individualized nursing care, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Nurse Co-op integrates academic learning with practice opportunity. The Nurse Co-op functions as a member of the patient care team by caring for patients and providing support services, under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
Essential Job Functions
Completes all documentation as delegated and according to standard operating procedures.
Administers medications utilizing the 6 Rights according to standard operating procedure and under clinical supervision of a registered nurse
Receives reports for patient/unit assignment. Reviews the plan of care and assists the Registered Nurse in updating, as appropriate while keeping the patient and patient's family in the plan of care.
Assists with admissions, discharges and transfers as delegated by the registered nurse. Assists with nursing procedures, gathering equipment as needed and providing patient care as appropriate. Reports changes in patient conditions.
Performs pain assessment and takes appropriate action according to standard operating procedure.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
Demonstrates understanding and follows infection control policies and procedures according to standard operating procedure.
Maintains requirements for age specific competencies for the position and demonstrates the knowledge or principles of growth and developments and the skills necessary to provide patient/customer care/services.
Driving Requirements
Infrequent Drivers: Persons who are generally not expected to drive.
License, Certification & Registration
Must be enrolled working towards a Bachelor's in Nursing Degree and in good academic standing, as defined by the applicable University/College.
Must be enrolled in a BSN nursing CO-OP course or an approved/equivalent course.
Two semesters of clinical experience required to apply.

- All pertinent safety, health and environmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Working safely, without causing harm or risk to self, others or property.
- The work environment safety procedures and prompt reporting of unsafe practices, procedures, accidents, injuries or other safety violations to the Leader.
- The use of all safety equipment and personal protective equipment.
