Position Description:

The Department of Public Health (DPH) at North Dakota State University invites applicants for an Assistant Professor of Practice, 9-month, full-time, non-tenure-track position. We seek collaborative individuals engaged in public health and with education or experience in health-related research methods or statistics.

The position responsibilities will include establishing an active, independent, public health research program, developing and teaching courses in public health, mentoring graduate students, and serving on Department and College committees. In addition, the person in this position will provide service to the Center for Biobehavioral Research at Sanford as an Assistant Scientist/Biostatistician. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the research, education, and practice mission of the DPH, contribute to the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation competencies and requirements, and engage in student recruitment. This position reports directly to the DPH Chair.

The Department of Public Health

The DPH offers a Master of Public Health (MPH), which is accredited through CEPH. We currently offer the MPH in two specializations: Epidemiology (which includes subplans: Epidemiology-Infectious Diseases, Epidemiology-Food Safety, and Epidemiology-General) and Community Health Sciences, a dual MPH/PharmD (with the School of Pharmacy), and several graduate certificates (including American Indian Public Health), as well as a Public Health minor for undergraduate students. The NDSU MPH program offers classes both on-campus and through distance learning technology.

Currently, the DPH has 11 full-time faculty members and 11 research and administrative staff. There are 25-30 MPH students that matriculate each year, with approximately 30% using our distance learning option. The DPH is located in the NDSU College of Health Professions, where it benefits from strong relationships with the School of Nursing and the School of Pharmacy.

The DPH has two Centers with opportunities for research collaboration: the American Indian Pubic Health Resource Center and the Center for Immunization Research and Education. The DPH also has strong relationships with entities including the North Dakota Department of Health, Sanford Health, and the Veterans Administration, which also offer opportunities for collaboration. Additional information about the Department can be found at www.ndsu.edu/publichealth .
