Summary

Provide leadership for the electrical and controls engineers within aftermarket engineering, perform technical project management and resource management for the team, and execute design, development, and release of products and services for the aftermarket engineering department.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of department design projects, including the review of product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications. Coordinate activities associated with technical development, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
  • Lead design and integration of electrical and controls systems on engines, auxiliary systems, and plant controls
  • Lead in-house cross functional design review efforts.
  • Maintain centrally located design records.
  • Facilitates communication among clients/customers and engineers, ensuring specifications, budgets, and deadlines are clearly communicated and understood.
  • Serves as technical project manager for multiple projects, creating timelines and cost projections, organizing collaborative meetings, and ensuring projects comply with specifications, timelines, and budgets.
  • Reviews work and projects for technical accuracy.
  • Provide support for cost reduction/value engineering projects, including design analysis and/or validation of critical electrical components and systems.
  • Coordinate with other departments regarding test activities, including specialized instrumentation, test procedures and data processing.
  • Identify external resources, develop contracts/proposals, and manage electrical and controls projects with external technical consultants.
  • Supervise and develop/mentor assigned electrical and controls personnel. Coordinate personnel through resource forecasting process aligned to needs. Execute department strategy and capability growth efforts by developing staff capabilities, recruiting, and managing technical deliverables of electrical and controls team.
  • Identify annual capital needs and manage team budget.
  • Recognize the dynamic nature of the scope of the solutions department and be flexible as responsibilities evolve. Assist in identifying gaps in knowledge/capability/bandwidth of team when new market opportunities present themselves.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • BSEE or equivalent degree required, advanced technical degree desired
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in an electrical or controls role within an engine or heavy machinery company and manufacturing environment. Prior engine experience is preferred.
  • Prior supervisory/management experience
  • PLC programming skill is a must, preferably Allen Bradley
  • Experience with generator applications, alternator applications, and load banks
  • Experience with protective relaying and high voltage up to 34.5kV a plus
  • Preferred 10 years of experience in work related to electrical power and controls preferred
  • Creative thinking, highly motivated, and the ability to work in a team environment is a must
  • Must be highly adaptable, able to reformulate plans as required as research activities progress and willingness to work across functional areas
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills
  • Occasional travel, both domestic and international, may be required
  • This position requires access or potential access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (NOFORN) data. Therefore, to meet NOFORN requirement, you will have to provide proof of US Citizenship and attest that you do not have dual citizenship. Acceptable proof of US Citizenship is a US Passport, US Birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate.
