The Big Picture:

As an industry pioneer in the use of BIM/VDC, Mortenson is seeking a Digital Design Manager to develop and advance DfMA (design for manufacture and assembly) principles within the organization and contribute to the digitalization strategy for Mortenson's vertical integration. This role will focus on the digital integration of development, product design, supply chain management, and manufacturing for high-density habitational markets. In coordination and collaboration with company and functional groups, the Digital Design Manager will oversee bill-of-material and assembly instruction development from model-based product design.

This role will also focus on research, development, and the strategic implementation of computational and generative design techniques, helping Mortenson advance computational thinking and applications across the organization and throughout phases of a project. The candidate is expected to be entrepreneurial in spirit, embracing change, and constantly seek opportunities to innovate. Strong communication skills are necessary as you will be interacting with team members at all levels in an ever-changing environment. Most importantly, the Digital Design Manager must have the technical ability to author and develop system assemblies, collaborate with design partners and production teams to refine, and maintain a digital catalog of system assemblies and parts for the product type.

Responsibilities

What will you be doing?

  • Develop and maintain the kit-of-parts of model assets (parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies) aligned to the product type.

  • Creation and management of asset library and rule database for design generation in alignment with Mortenson's manufacturing and supply chain entities.

  • Produce detailed models, bill-of-materials, and instructions for approval and/or engineering.

  • Coordinate and lead external design and engineering partners in the DfMA detailing process.

  • Participate in Mortensons IDAT (Integrated Delivery Advancement Team) knowledge networks.

  • Champion training of product design team on platforms, processes, and digital asset management.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

How will you succeed?

  • Provide strategic guidance to VDC process implementation aligned to the themes of industrialized and offsite construction.

  • Champion the digitalization process for the product development team; providing the framework for vertical integration of Mortenson's businesses.

  • Evaluate and lead adoption of solutions to seamlessly integrate product development, procurement, manufacturing, and installation.

  • Partner with Supply Chain and Manufacturing to incorporate relevant information and assets within the product design phase.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers, production teams, and design teams to optimize system assemblies and product design using model-based workflows.

  • Develop digital prototypes and/or mockups of systems, testing processes and tools to provide recommendation for implementation at scale.

  • Develop and test design authoring automation, using Dynamo or similar, to expedite documentation, data extraction, and other practices.

  • Location: Headquarters preferred, geographic office conversation

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field.

  • Minimum of 8 years in the AEC space and at least 4 years of those in BIM production, detailing roles.

  • Expertise in developing, implementing, and managing VDC processes and BIM solutions to improve project outcomes.

  • High level of competency with Autodesk Design Suite, Revit Fabrication, Dynamo, Excel.

  • Familiarity with other AEC applications such as Autodesk's EstMEP, Inventor, Navisworks, EvolveMEP, Unifi, Testfit.io, and Synchro.

  • Ability to read construction drawings and specifications and generate model content accordingly.

  • Current drivers license.
