Engineer - West Central, Minnesota

Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world's leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking a self-motivated, experienced civil engineer to be located in West Central, Minnesota. The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design and construction of wetland restoration and enhancement projects. Primary responsibilities will be in Southwest Minnesota.

Qualifications

Candidates must have at minimum, a B.S in Civil Engineering or an equivalent degree from an EAC/ABET accredited engineering program, and a minimum of 2 years of experience in civil engineering design. Applicant must be a registered EIT or PE. Applicant will need to obtain registration in Minnesota. Desirable qualifications include experience with Civil3D, hydrology, hydraulics, civil design including structures and pump stations, erosion control, construction inspection, surveying and project management. Demonstrated oral, written and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, goal oriented and able to work with and solve problems in close team-based relationships.

Responsibilities

Perform a full range of project planning, design, contracting, and construction management functions on wetland, riparian, and associated habitat restoration projects. Project delivery responsibilities include field survey, engineering design, drafting with AutoCAD Civil 3D, project bidding, field inspection, and construction management. A close working relationship with local, state and federal personnel, private landowners, and other conservation partners will be an important aspect of the job. The position will include travel throughout assigned states.

Specific duties include:

  • Survey project sites using Trimble GPS survey equipment.
  • Interpret, select, adapt, and apply engineering, surveying, and construction management principles and practices across a range of engineering services within a diverse conservation program.
  • Complete engineering designs and reports as required.
  • Draft engineering plan sets using AutoCAD Civil 3D software
  • Conduct field inspection and perform construction management oversight as needed.
  • Ensure that consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications and schedules.
  • Act as contracting officer and ensure contract compliance and manage project budgets.
  • Perform field work as required which could include strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions. Must be able to operate ATV and outboard boat when necessary.
