Environmental and Chemical Safety Manager

• Develop, implement, and maintain environment, and hazardous materials programs.
• Remain knowledgeable about applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Provide interpretation and guidance on environmental and hazardous materials regulations.
• Perform inspections/audits and follow-up.
• Develop and provide training.
• Maintain records in accordance with university and regulatory requirements.
• Respond to hazardous materials emergencies.
• Investigate incidents and concerns to identify improvement strategies.
• Conduct risk assessments and initiate controls.
• Provide consultation regarding hazardous materials and environmental activities for laboratory and pilot plant research activities.

Required Competencies

• Understanding of the hazardous waste determination process.
• Strong computer skills needed in the use of Microsoft Office software.

Minimum Requirements

• B.S. in Environmental, Engineering, Safety, or related scientific discipline, or equivalent.
• 3+ years of environmental and/or hazardous materials experience.
• Experience or understanding with environmental regulations.
• Experience with hazardous materials classification and handling.
• Experience with hazardous waste regulatory requirements.
• Experience in hazard recognition and risk management.
• Experience in developing and providing training.
• Must have or must gain HAZWOPER certification with employer support within 6 months.
• Able to utilize a respirator.
• Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications

• M.S. in Environmental, Engineering, Chemistry, or other related scientific discipline, or equivalent.
• Experience with organic and inorganic chemistry.
• Experience with laboratory environments.
• Knowledge or experience with occupational exposures to hazardous materials.
• Experience with hazardous materials shipments and transportation.
• Experience in environmental regulatory reporting requirements.
• Experience with OSHA’s process safety management and/or the EPA’s risk management plan.
• REM, CHMM, or related environmental/hazardous materials certification.
• ASP, CSP, or related EHS certification.

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$63,000-$90,000 Annual/Full-Time, Benefited, Exempt

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with flexibility to accommodate work activities/work life balance. Some travel may be required.
