Description

This position is located at the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC), an international leader in energy and environmental research, conducting projects for clients throughout the United States and the world. We are looking for confident, scientifically trained, and market-oriented individuals to contribute to the success of the organization by performing one or more of the following functions:

  • Responsible for installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of electrical hardware in research demonstration areas and facilities.
  • Install ridged conduit, pull wire, terminate connections.
  • Install motors, contactors, soft starts and VFD’s.
  • Wire electrical equipment for use in electrically classified hazardous environments.
  • Assemble electrical process heaters.
  • Assist with layout and fabrication of control panels and control interfaces for new equipment under the supervision of a Master electrician.
  • Troubleshoots PLCs, controllers, process alarms, motors and drives, and heater controls.
  • Electrical maintenance in support of facilities, lighting, HVAC, electrical outlets etc.

Required Competencies

  • Must have the ability to operate power and hand tools in a safe manner; ability to lift, bend, reach, and work above and below shoulder level; climb stairs/ladders; work on elevated open-grate flooring on a routine basis; ability to lift and carry up to 50 lb; and ability to manipulate, with assistance, 55-gallon drums weighing up to 300 lb.
  • Must be able to read and understand electrical design drawings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven experience with meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, organizational, and computer skills.

Minimum Requirements

  • 2 year vocational degree or equivalent professional training as an electrician.
  • 3 years of work experience as an apprentice electrician.
  • Must have current Osha 10 training.
  • Experience with electronic controls, such as pneumatic controls, pressure and temperature transmitters, control valves, PLC’s, and motor drives.
  • Experience working in Class I ( Div. 1 and 2) and Class II electrically classified hazardous environments.
  • Read construction drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools, process meters, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other electronic diagnostic equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license; some travel may be involved.
  • Will be tested and must satisfactorily complete a physical exam to be approved for wearing a negative pressure respirator.
  • Not required by the EERC; however, some clients will require drug screenings.
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of work experience as an electrician.
  • Experience with control panels, data acquisition, and HMI.
  • Experience with motor control wiring, motor starters and variable frequency drives.

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$45,000 Annual/Full-Time, Benefited, Non-Exempt

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m – 4:00 p.m., with occasional evening and overnight shift work. Travel may be required.
