MNL, a leader in ecological restoration, has an opening for an Equipment Operator to join our Vegetation Management team. The Equipment Operator is responsible for running equipment on small to large scale ecological restoration projects throughout the state of Minnesota. This position requires equipment operation and strong communication skills with field staff and customers to carryout out project tasks both accurately and safely from start to finish. This operator position will be heavily involved in prescribed burning, vegetation management, forestry work and a variety of other equipment operation and labor tasks as needed. Hourly rate of $23-25 p/h (DOQ).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates a variety of equipment, which includes agricultural tractors, trailers, skid-loaders, forestry equipment, mowers, boom sprayers, weed whips, backpack sprayers, chainsaws and ATV/UTVs, among other equipment, to complete a variety of vegetation management job duties.
  • Follows directions from Project Managers/ Project Superintendents regarding schedules and site work expectations.
  • Performs necessary equipment repairs in the field and shop as able/necessary.
  • Utilizes an ATV/UTV or water tanker for herbicide application or prescribed burning projects.
  • Performs tree shearing skidding or forestry mowing with skid-loader mounted implements.
  • Maintains work records and associated paperwork, including daily worklogs and herbicide treatments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience working in landscaping or agriculture.
  • Experience with vegetation management, including herbicide handling and application, as well as experience with native and invasive species plant identification is preferred.
  • Experience with the safe operation and general maintenance of tools and equipment, such as pumps, small engines, sprayers, tractors, ATV/UTVs, trailers, skid-loaders, mowers, and other equipment.
  • Must have, or be willing to obtain with company assistance, a class A CDL driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements within 30 days of hire.
  • Must have or be willing to acquire a Minnesota Pesticide Applicators license within 2 months of employment.
  • Ability to read and navigate maps, as well as accurately follow directions.
  • Basic computer knowledge, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, reach and move as needed in order to complete various vegetation management duties.
  • Prolonged periods of time standing.
  • Able to work long hours, including early mornings, late evenings and occasional weekends; work hours may be reduced during the winter season.
  • Must be able to work in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and extreme cold.
  • Able to travel daily to various worksites with occasional overnight stays required.
