Position Summary:
The College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science (EMS) seeks Communications Manager to assist the college with department communication.
This position is responsible for providing leadership in the management of communication and marketing initiatives for the college. On a day-to-day basis, the Communications Manager is responsible for coordinating initiatives that impact effective communication to internal and external stakeholders and the promotion of the college initiatives, undergraduate research, faculty and staff member accomplishments and more. The Communications Manager collaborates and connects with college and campus constituents and external constituents to leverage College efforts. Specific internal collaborators include University Marketing and Communications, the Offices of Admission and Recruitment, and more. This position will require candidates to be comfortable presenting in front of large and small groups.

This position is a full-time, 12-month academic staff position and is benefit eligible. Wage rage for this position is $47,000-$50,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities:
Plan, direct, set objectives, prioritize, lead, and manage the College's communication plan including the publication of a college newsletter, magazine (Geode), annual report, videos, website, resources for prospective and current students, and social media accounts.
  • Manage EMS Communications Team to leverage content across several campus areas ??? Collaborate with college faculty to generate content and promote points of pride, support recruitment and enrollment efforts, and funnel ideas and content to University Marketing and Communications for University promotion.
  • Effectively review, write, edit articles, publications, and presentations that meet the needs of a variety of audiences.
  • Assist with preparing surveys, collecting information, and writing reports in support of accreditation, articulation agreements and new initiatives.
  • Collaborate with various UW-Platteville personnel, e.g., the College of EMS Development Officer, Offices of Admission and Recruitment, University Marketing and Communications, EMS webmaster.
  • Support University recruitment efforts specifically related to the College of EMS.
  • Utilize a variety of communication channels such as social media posts, written articles, websites and more.
  • Assist with alumni, industry, and student relation plans for all college events (e.g., Homecoming).
  • Supervise student assistants.
  • Manage College awards programs.
  • Understand and utilize University brand standards.
Scholarly and Professional Activity
a. Attend conferences related to marketing and communications with a focused effort on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
b. Attend workshops and training sessions held on campus.
c. Research "best practices" of STEM marketing and communications and apply knowledge to work duties.
Professional University and Relevant Community Service
a. Serve on committees or participate in campus activities beyond the department level.
b. Attend events or support functions of campus offices beyond the department level.
c. Provide community service beyond the department and university level to benefit Platteville and/or surrounding area.
Other duties:
a. This position may involve work expectations outside of normal UW-Platteville office hours, e.g., night hours, weekend commitments, etc.
b. Other duties not explicitly stated here may also be required. An annual goal setting meeting is to be conducted between each supervisor and each member of the academic staff by December 31 of each year for the upcoming calendar year. At this goal setting conference, specific expectations under all Sections of this position description are to be established in writing for the upcoming calendar year.
What You'll Need to Succeed:
- Bachelor's Degree in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, communication, education, psychology, humanities, social sciences, student/client services or a related field from an accredited institution.
- 2-4 years of demonstrated professional experience in one or more of the following: communications, program planning, writing, editing, marketing, and providing student/client services.

- Highly motivated empathetic person with strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

- Demonstrated time management skills, attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

- Strong and effective organizational, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

- Proficient in software applications such as Microsoft Office.

- Valid driver's license and ability to meet the conditions to drive a state vehicle.

- Demonstrated ability to engage students of diverse backgrounds, including sensitivity to their needs and concerns.
