Description

The Human Subjects Core (HSC) is a resource to serve the human subjects research aims of investigators participating in the Indigenous Trauma & Resilience Research Center and more broadly at the University of North Dakota (UND). UND is a Carnegie Doctoral Research Institution with an international reputation for research, notably in health sciences, nutrition, energy and environmental protection, aerospace, and engineering. The HSC will promote a professional environment that will facilitate the progress of Individual Project Leaders (PLs) to pursue R01 and similar funding mechanisms for human subjects research. This position will assist in ensuring regulatory compliance with NIH, IRB, and tribal guidelines. This role will also provide assistance to investigators in developing informed consent documents, assisting with Data Safety Monitoring board operations, and coordinating activities among COBRE, UND, IRB, and tribal stakeholders regarding human subjects research.

Duties & Responsibilities

Oversight, Coordination and Facilitation of all HSC functions

  • Coordinates all aspects of the Clinical Measurement Program (CMP) and ensures close collaboration with the participant recruitment coordinator, including oversight of scheduling, budgets, procedures, and productivity. In collaboration with the HSC Core Director, prepares meeting agendas and leads/facilitates regular team meetings.
  • Works closely with investigators to understand and meet their needs for measurement, which may include measurement selection, training lab staff in measurement procedures, or arranging for measurement by COBRE faculty.  Supports Investigator interpretation of clinical measures as needed.
  • Directs Recruitment Specialist in recruitment of participants appropriate to project needs.
  • Participates in the design and implementation of selected research projects.
  • Provides feedback and project management of all HSC functions under the supervision of the HSC Core Director.
  • Ensures all test batteries and associated protocols reflect current, state of the art practices staff training on protocols, and ensures that routine fidelity and data quality procedures are maintained.
  • Directs data collection and analysis, provides such to the relevant oversight committees and entities including COBRE, DaCCoTA, and other UND affiliated research efforts.

Lead and facilitate the expansion of Human Subjects Research capacity at UND

  • Oversee the development of a Biosample Database in collaboration with the UND Epigenetics COBRE
  • Manage Adverse Event Reporting processes and policies in collaboration with the UND IRB and the DaCCoTA
  • Establish and administer a Data safety monitoring board collaboratively with the BERDC Principle Investigator
  • Conduct and support culturally relevant and appropriate human subjects research training for Indigenous communities; promote and facilitate culturally appropriate and responsive human subjects research and expand training opportunities for same.
  • Facilitate and conduct meta scholarship regarding best practices for engaging American Indians into clinical trials

Required Competencies

  • Ability to prepare budget projections, based on multiple revenue sources.
  • Ability interact effectively with staff members of COBRE Leads and investigators across the UND community
  • Ability to establish and maintain an environment that encourages teamwork, interdependence, communication and ethical actions
  • Ability to communicate concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to remain flexible in duties performed.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and use Microsoft Office Software, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to use RedCap to develop and manage selected data entry forms.
  • Ability to operate all laboratory-based equipment

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, public health, public or business administration, social work, sociology, psychology or related field
  • Minimum one (1) year working with human subjects research and coordination
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience working with human patients in a clinical or laboratory setting
  • Familiarity with PDX and animal-based clinical research, facilities, and processes
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree  or higher in relevant field
  • Three (3) years working in a clinical or laboratory setting
  • Experience with patient intake, navigation, and/or advocacy
  • Experience with HIPAA, medical records tracking and management, and/or ERMS and Electronic Health Records

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$60,000/year, Full-time, Exempt, Benefited

Work Schedule/Start Date

Regular work hours are 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday through Friday
