Description

The Human Subjects Core (HSC) is a resource to serve the human subjects research aims of investigators participating in the Indigenous Trauma & Resilience Research Center and more broadly at the University of North Dakota (UND). UND is a Carnegie Doctoral Research Institution with an international reputation for research, notably in health sciences, nutrition, energy and environmental protection, aerospace, and engineering. The HSC will promote a professional environment that will facilitate the progress of Individual Project Leaders (PLs) to pursue R01 and similar funding mechanisms for human subjects research. This position will assist in ensuring regulatory compliance with NIH, IRB, and tribal guidelines. This role will also provide assistance to investigators in developing informed consent documents, assisting with Data Safety Monitoring board operations, and coordinating activities among COBRE, UND, IRB, and tribal stakeholders regarding human subjects research.

Duties & Responsibilities

Recruitment of Study participant populations

  • Recruit (internal and external), enroll, schedule, track and manage the placement of study participants and clinical panels into multi-focus research efforts, focusing on American Indian populations, integrative research efforts, and community-driven research priorities.
  • Works closely with investigators at the direction of HSC Research Coordinator to understand and meet their needs for measurement, which may include identifying, cultivating, and strengthening relationships with priority patient populations and health care entities.
  • Assists and participates in the design and implementation of selected research projects by identifying prospective patient and participant key traits, meeting recruitment goals.
  • Develop and manage recruitment resources, materials, advertisements, and in-person relationships that yield sufficient participant numbers for a variety of research projects, sometimes operating simultaneously. Assist with scheduling to accommodate multiple research project timelines and participant availabilities.
  • Work collaboratively with research efforts across UND and the Dakotas, including COBRE, DaCCoTA, and other UND affiliated research efforts.

Build Human Subjects Research capacity at UND

  • Support the development and management of a Biosample Database in collaboration with the UND Epigenetics COBRE at the direction of and in collaboration with other Human Subjects Core staff.
  • Participate in the Adverse Event Reporting processes and policies in collaboration with the UND IRB and the DaCCoTA.
  • Support the establishment and administration of a Data safety monitoring board collaboratively with the BERDC Principle Investigator.
  • Support culturally relevant and appropriate human subjects research training for Indigenous communities; promote and facilitate culturally appropriate and responsive human subjects research and expand training opportunities for Indigenous communities and institution-based researchers and faculty.
  • Work collaboratively with DaCCoTA, AICoRN, and other entities to promote and enhance scientific research partnerships across priority communities.
  • Facilitate and support meta scholarship regarding best practices for engaging American Indians into clinical trials.

Required Competencies

  • Ability to communicate concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to remain flexible in duties performed.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and use Microsoft Office Software, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to use RedCap to develop and manage selected data entry forms.
  • Ability to operate all laboratory-based equipment

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical sciences, public health, healthcare administration, social work or related field
  • 1 year working with human subjects research and coordination or professional experience and familiarity with same
  • Minimum 1 year educational or professional experience with laboratory equipment, scientific research, clinical practice and patient management, or similar
  • Experience working with at-risk or underserved populations in a scientific or clinical setting
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year clinical research trials recruiting
  • 1 year experience with recruitment, sales, or relevant relationship management deliverables

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$43,000/year, Full-time, Exempt, Benefited

Work Schedule/Start Date

Normal work hours are 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.
