Description

This successful applicant will perform and manage research operations in the Yakoub Lab. He/She will help investigators design and projects involving working with models systems of brain diseases and analysis of big data datasets. He/She will assist with the design and analysis of cell and animal experiments including data generated by UND researchers and their collaborators as well as of publicly available genomics and transcriptomics or other data. Tasks include, but are not limited to, design of experiments, grooming of raw data, statistical tests, and helping generate figures for presentation and publication. The successful applicant will be able to identify the best strategy, including software for analysis of specific data, to accomplish the project and will be capable of learning the necessary new skills. This individual will be supervising other lab members in wet lab procedures and data analysis, will help lab members in specific projects, and will conduct meetings when needed with individual investigators in relation to projects. He/She will also be responsible for the data presentations and writing papers and assists with grant application writing and paperwork. He/She will also be responsible for maintenance and oversight of lab equipment. This individual will also identify problems, challenges, and future directions as the lab grows and work with investigators and to bring issues to appropriate resolution.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, Perform and Analyze Experiments to Understand Disease in Model Systems
    • Manage the design, execution, and data analysis of cell culture and animal model experiments in consultation with the PI and colleagues in the lab
    • Execute molecular biology procedures associated
    • Execute tissue and cell analysis using microscopy and western blotting
    • Operate and maintain computers used with data analysis and associated with project(s)
    • Generate frequent progress reports in compliance with requirements set by external funding agencies such as the NIH
  • Write Research Papers and Assist with Grant Application Writing and Process
    • Writing research results as manuscripts for submission to journals
    • Helping the PI in preparing research grant applications and in writing
  • Manage and Supervise Lab Operations/Personnel
    • Help hire, train, evaluate, supervise, and perform disciplinary tasks as necessary for lab
    • Evaluate current training and operating procedures and processes for employees, draft new policies and procedures, as necessary
    • Provide appropriate feedback and performance improvement measures and guidance
    • Maintain organizational chart for the lab group supervised, recommend changes as necessary
    • Attend supervisory training sessions as deemed necessary and appropriate

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Microbiology and Immunology, Molecular Genetics or Pharmacology
  • Outstanding academic performance, GPA > 3.5, as demonstrated on your CV and transcript
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in Drosophilia or mouse models, genetics, biochemistry, or related field
  • Minimum of 6 months of wet lab experience
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$44,000+/year, DOE, Full-Time, Exempt, Benefited

Work Schedule/Start Date

40 hours per week. Anticipated Start Date of November 1, 2021
