Description

The purpose of this position is to advance experimental research in the Eliazer Lab; to design, perform experiments and analyze data involving cell and molecular biology techniques; to learn state-of the art techniques in epigenomics and cell biology and advance federally supported research.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist the Principal Investigator on New and On-Going Lab Projects: Lab Research
    • Design and execute experiments involving molecular biology and cell biology approaches such as DNA/RNA isolation, Immunofluorescence, Western Blotting, Immunoprecipitation, Quantitative RT-PCR and Fluorescence Assisted Cell Sorting (FACS)
    • Perform experiments related to tissue culture growth and differentiation of primary mouse muscle stem cells
    • Learn and perform high throughput technologies such as ChIP sequencing, RNA sequencing and Hi-C
    • Establish and maintain genetic mouse models, perform in vivo mouse muscle injuries and follow the regeneration process of stem cells
  • Assist the PI in the Proper Functioning of the Lab: Lab Maintenance
    • Maintain the proper functioning of Laboratory Equipment
    • Order lab supplies an dreagents; keep a record of all purchases and pertinent information
    • Maintain an inventory of DNA, primers, antibodies and other lab supplies
    • Oversee lab personnel, making sure they are following lab rules
    • Training new lab personnel on the techniques utilized in the lab
  • Evaluate Data and Results Obtained from the Experiments and Draft Conclusions for Reports
    • Perform data analysis and interpret data generated from the experiments, making use of spreadsheets, charts and graphs
    • Clearly document results of experiments and analyses in hard copy or electronic format
    • Assist in manuscript writing and in the generation of publication quality figures
    • Read and comprehend primary literature pertinent to the project and utilize the information to enhance research
    • Participate actively in discussions during weekly lab meetings
    • Present results in weekly lab meetings and other meetings, including oral presentation and poster presentation

Required Competencies

  • Experience using software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Graphpad Prism
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Able to present in small and large groups
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Must be willing to learn and develop new techniques

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in a laboratory (through formal education and/or training)
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as evidence by your resume
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with and handling mice
  • Experience working with eukaryotic cell culture

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$46,000+/year, dependent upon experience, Full-time, Exempt, Benefited

Work Schedule/Start Date

40 hours per week. Anticipated start date: November 1, 2021.
