Description

This position will support ongoing research in the Epigenetics COBRE Biomedical Informatics Core. They will conduct next-generation sequencing experiments in support of researchers throughout the Medical School. In addition to the conduct of experimental procedures, they will support Core laboratory day to day operations via sample receiving, handling, processing and archiving as well as through the generation and distribution of results.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Preparation of Sequencing Libraries for Various Next Generation Sequencing Platforms
    • Directional and Non-Directional RNA sequencing library Preparation for analysis of mRNA gene expression
    • Directional and Non-Directional RNA sequencing library Preparation for analysis of Coding and Non-Coding Transcripts
    • Preparation of sequencing libraries for 10x Single cell transcriptome analysis
    • Quality Control (QC), Pooling and Normalization of sequencing libraries prepared for sequencing in MiSeq
    • QC, Pooling and Normalization of large numbers (up to 96) sequencing libraries such as that for Microbiome analysis
    • Coordinating shipping and sequencing of user samples to external vendor
  • Operation of Sequencing Platforms and Automated Liquid Handling System
    • Operation and maintenance of Illumina MiSeq system. This person will operate and maintain Illumina Sequencing Instrument-MiSeq. This person will proactively contact tech support in case of an operational issues and coordinate with them to solve issues.  
    • Operation and Maintenance of Bravo A-automated Liquid handling robot system.  This individual will generate workflows and implement them with the help of Agilent application specialist based on the requirement of the core function.  This person will also be responsible for testing new protocols to evaluate their accuracy.
    • Operation and maintenance and Agilent Fragment analyzers.  This person will operate and maintain Fragment analyzers namely Bioanalyzer and Tape station in the core Facility.
  • Maintaining Equipment and Laboratory Inventory
    • This individual will be responsible for the tracking, ordering, receiving and storing of laboratory supplies for the Core.  This individual will monitor and maintain sample inventory, reagent inventory, test results and project progress.
    • They will also be responsible for maintaining equipment and tracking equipment maintenance schedules.  These tasks will require competence with Microsoft Office as well as ability to be trained to use the Laboratory Inventory Management System (LIMS) software employed by the Core.  Training will be provided.
    • The individual will be responsible for generation of monthly and annual reports for Core use using LIMS software as requested by the Core director and CoBRE administration.
  • Invoicing and Billing Monthly for Project Activity Completed within Each Billing Cycle
    • This individual will be responsible for invoicing and billing for services rendered through Genomics Core facility using the LIMS software.
  • Light Maintenance of Core Website
    • This individual will also be expected to edit the Core website using the OU campus software at the direction of management.  Prior experience with website maintenance is not required.

Required Competencies

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.
  • Previous molecular biology, chemistry or similar laboratory research experience outside of formal classes.
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with molecular biology techniques such as Western, PCR, etc.
  • Experience with project organization and physical or electronic bookkeeping.

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$36,000+/year, DOE and qualifications, Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Benefited

Work Schedule/Start Date

M-F, 40 hrs/week. Anticipated Start Date of November 1, 2021
