Position Summary:
Working closely with Engineering and Designer II, the Designer I completes a variety of complex design assignments using initiative and independent judgement. The Designer I provides direct engineering input for the development of original designs or adaptions. Investigates and procures all data required to develop a design and confers with engineering to resolve detail not completely defined. Prepares accurate drawings and designs using 3D CAD software.
Essential Functions:
- Utilize a computer aided design (CAD) system to create drawings using 3D Solidworks
- Exercise critical judgment in creating designs that perform functionally and meet project specifications while considering key aspects of safety, cost, code compliance, ability to fabricate, ergonomics and aesthetics.
- Use company-developed sizing calculations and perform simple analysis calculations to verify design functionality.
- Find and implement catalog components into equipment designs.
- Create Bills-of-Material, detailed drawings, and release the engineering package to manufacturing.
- Support manufacturing by answering questions and regularly inspecting the fabrication.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings. Interpret schematics to develop complete system designs.
- Effectively communicate (verbally and written) with engineering, procurement, manufacturing, suppliers and customers.
Education / Experience:
- Proficient in CAD
- Familiar with mechanical equipment layouts, detail drawings, and basic piping diagrams .
- Proficient with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Prior experience with Project Lifecycle Management (PLM) software (SAP, Oracle, etc...) preferred but not required.
- The ability to follow project schedules.
- Able to work well independently and in a collaborative team environment.
- Ability to adapt and grow in a learning environment.
- Associate or Bachelor degree in Engineering, Mechanical Design, or related field preferred
- Good verbal and written communication skills, including proficient technical writing skills
- A team oriented, self-starting individual capable of working with little supervision
- Excellent problem solving skills and root cause analysis tools
- Strong organizational and project management skills with a commitment to quality
- Able to train and work in a team environment, actively encourages and engages others and seeks inputs and ideas
