The Journeyman Gasman performs service work on Company equipment and in customers' homes. The Journeyman Gasman is certified to fuse plastic pipe and fittings that are part of the gas distribution system.DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAll NorthWestern Energy employees are required to adhere to company safety standards and the Code of Business Conduct & EthicsEnsure all actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energy's values, mission, and strategic business objectivesCommunicate verbally and understand audible signals in emergency/safety situationsParticipate in on-call rotation schedules, work evenings and weekend shifts'especially in response to acute service needsRespond to natural gas emergencies, complete gas construction activities, and perform service work as neededAssume leadership role in response to emergency situationsInteract with the public.Operate hand tools and heavy equipment including backhoes and trenchersHand-shovel dirt to dig and backfill trenchesInstall pipe, wrap pipes and joints,Fuse plastic pipe, clean joints for clamping, operate fusion toolsInstall meters and regulatorsUse blueprints and advanced skilled knowledge to fabricate, service and construct gas linesUse tapping equipment to tap and stop-off gas linesAct as a job foreman overseeing all aspects of a project, including safety and planningComplete all documentation for project planning and completionPerform service-related work including but not limited to the following: meter reading, working with customers in their homes, gas leakage checks, CO checks, appliance checks, high bill complaint investigations, disconnecting and reestablishing services (electric and gas turn-off/on), and lighting pilotsConduct scheduled leak surveys, operate various leak detection equipmentOrganize equipment and perform regular and preventative maintenance.Work as a team member to safely and efficiently complete work activitiesMaintain situational and safety awareness at all times and communicate as needed to maintain safety and efficiencyPerform individual lifts and manipulate needed equipment weighing up to 75 poundsDrive to job locations; tow trailersMaintain Company buildings and facilities at work locations, including shop upkeep and snow removalAdapt to technological changes as they are implementedRespond from home to primary work location within a reasonable amount of time (SD/NE)*MARGINAL WORK FUNCTIONS *These functions may be considered essential based on location and other factors.Weld steel pipes*Act as a job foreman, oversee individuals within the worksite, and assume leadership role in response to emergency situations*Drive to installation locations*Organize equipment and perform regular and preventative maintenanceGENERAL QUALIFICATIONSDemonstrate and maintain a good safety recordHigh school diploma or equivalentJourneyman Gasman or equivalent requiredNatural gas vocational training preferredSuccessfully Complete NWE Gas Operator Qualification program within 6 months to ensure qualification to perform assigned tasks including recognizing and reacting to abnormal operating conditions as specified in Title 49 CFR, Part 192Valid Commercial Driver's License and satisfactory driving recordMust complete First Aid/CPR Certification within 6 months of hireComplete NWE HAZMAT program within 6 months of hireAbility to become weld certified and plastic fusion certified within 6 monthsKnowledge of or ability to learn applicable codes and safety rules and regulationsCommitment to safe working practices and knowledge of safety policies/proceduresSELECTION PROCESSWhen considering applicants for this position, the selection process will take into consideration the needs of NorthWestern, including such factors as reorganization requirements, diversity opportunities, relocation requirements, employee development and job succession.
