Responsibilities:

Meal Service & Set-up

  • Clean-up, set-up, service of the childcare meals each day that the Center is open
  • Prepare side dishes that may accompany the main meal (e.g. cutting or peeling fruit, putting together sandwiches, etc.)
  • Set-up lunch carts and tables within in the classrooms.
  • Prepare snack items to have ready for later in the day when the children eat it. 

Kitchen & Meal Clean-up

  • Responsible for the clean-up of breakfast & lunch carts, serving utensils, & serving dishes
  • Put away dishes & leave the kitchen clean, sanitized, and organized at all times
  • Ensure compliance for keeping food prep area, kitchen counters, cabinets, floors, & appliances are clean and in regulation with licensing and safety regulations and rules.
  • Removing garbage & ensuring kitchen is ready for the next meal or day when you leave for the day

Food preparation

  • Responsible for the food serving taks- including making sure that child's specific food need are addressed (identifying allergies), food is always fresh and has undergone the proper food handling procedure
  • Responsible for food storage in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage. Place hot food in food warmers to keep warm for later use or store cold foods in the refrigerator.
  • Check temperatures of foods before they are served and brought to the classrooms.
  • Inform delivery person or Sodexo kitchen of the need for different food items. Letting them know when items such as: milk, cereal, or condiments are running low.

Record Keeping & Safety Regulations     

  • Employee must complete trainings as needed for licensing and food program.
  • Assist Sodexo in keeping records of the food production and quantities used.
  • Record dishwasher, fridge, freezer & food temperatures as needed.

Other Duties as assigned 

  • Complete and help with laundry as time allows.
  • Maintain dishwasher and kitchen appliances as needed, notifying the Director if supplies are needed or there is a problem.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability  to follow departmental policies, procedures and directives.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, write legibly, perform basic arithmetic (addition and subtraction), in order to perform the duties described above.
  • Must have strong communication skills and be able to communicate at all times with Center Director and classroom teachers to ensure that service run smoothly.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Kitchen experience
  • Experience with CAFCP food program meals
  • Experience with allergy and food restriction regulations

Physical Requirements

  • Physical ability to lift fifty (50) pounds, ability to carry tray balanced with dishes
  • Prolonged standing and reaching

Additional Requirements:
In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (MnSCU) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MnSCU’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
