Position Information

Preferred location for position is in Fargo - but negotiable.

The purpose of this position is to maximize the broader impact and effectiveness of all ND EPSCoR programs by the following duties:
  • Lead, develop, maintain, and enhance strong alliances between the ND EPSCoR State Office and tribal communities within ND, including the Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs).
  • Lead, develop, implement, manage, and support ND EPSCoR State Office programs and initiatives for underrepresented and underserved students in ND; especially American Indians, which have the potential to positively impact the STEM pathway for underrepresented and underserved students in ND.
  • Lead evaluation and assessment efforts related to all programming related to this position.

Responsibilities:
  • Travel, extensively, across ND to meet with tribal members, elders, and council members; TCU presidents, academic officers, STEM faculty, NATURE coordinators, and students; K-12 teachers, administrators, and students; and other stakeholders to discuss, support, track, and evaluate STEM Needs, NATURE programming, and other ND EPSCoR sponsored activities involving tribal communities [e.g., NSF RII Track-1, CIRCLES Alliance, ND Gateway to Science partnership, etc.].
  • Lead/co-lead committees to develop and to promote STEM partnerships within tribal communities.
  • Attend NATURE activities within tribal communities.
  • Meet regularly with ND EPSCoR State Office management team(s).
  • Support STEM research and training capacity-building initiatives within tribal communities and at TCUs located in ND, which engage community members and/or TCU faculty in building the STEM interest of students (K-postsecondary) and encourage student perseverance throughout their STEM academic career or into the STEM workforce.
  • Lead ND EPSCoR State Office STEM outreach initiatives in tribal communities.
  • Assist tribal communities, including TCU stakeholders, in building additional STEM outreach collaborations with other STEM researchers and outreach personnel at other ND EPSCoR State Office participating campuses and across other ND EPSCoR State Office outreach initiatives and partnerships.
  • Facilitate the hiring of K-12 teachers to develop STEM lesson plans from informal STEM activities (e.g., NATURE Sunday Academy STEM modules) for upload to the ND EPSCoR State Office STEM Education Portal.
  • Facilitate the hiring of cultural leaders from tribal communities to develop indigenous STEM materials that supplement K-12 STEM lessons plans for upload to the ND EPSCoR State Office STEM Education Portal.
  • Maintain a data collection and management system with the goal of discovering, integrating, and analyzing best practices that foster positive outcomes for diverse students [especially American Indian] pursuing STEM disciplines.
  • Consistently brand all ND EPSCoR State Office NATURE programming and disseminate results to stakeholders.
  • Track and engage NATURE participant alumni.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops and educational events in support of all program components.
  • Understand the funding mechanisms of all programming components and, in collaboration with ND EPSCoR Business Manager, assist all personnel in implementing, managing, and amending designated budgets/sub-awards.
  • Identify new funding opportunities for NATURE and new initiatives that lead to the collaborative development of proposals to fund those programs.
  • As the point person for all NATURE programming; evaluate the success of each activity; including as the point person for all external evaluations (e.g., from competitive and partner funding).
  • Analyze and interpret assessment data, make key recommendations, and disseminate lessons learned through the evaluation process and respond to external evaluation recommendations. Work with activity team to make changes in programming to address evaluation findings and continue to implement best practices that foster positive outcomes for Native American students pursuing STEM degrees and careers.
  • Create a plan with the ND EPSCoR Project Director, Project Administrator, and STEM Manager to address evaluation findings and further refine ND EPSCoR State Office programming to continue to broaden participation to underrepresented and underserved populations within the state.
  • Develop manuscripts and presentations for disseminating results.
  • Provide written and/or oral reports to stakeholders, as requested, including the ND EPSCoR State Steering Committee, Advisory Committees, granting agencies, partners, and the citizens of ND.
  • Maintain ERcore database of program information. Conduct or monitor data collection and data entry.
  • Serve as the ND EPSCoR State Office contact person for Institutional Review Board and other compliance protocols related to NATURE programs (including required training). Work with all parties on data collection instruments and managing the data collection process.
  • Assist, where possible, by working together with the TCU and the ND University System on minimizing the challenges TCU students face when transferring to a RU.
  • Other duties as defined by the EPSCoR Project Administrator or Executive Director.

Work Schedule:
  • 40 hours per week: 8am-5pm [academic year] and 7:30am-4pm [non-academic year]
  • 12 months per year

Advertised Salary:
  • Commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree
  • Knowledge of federal grants and award management.
  • Equivalence of four years' experience in the following:
  • TCU experience
  • Experience with STEM programs
  • Experience in writing reports and project monitoring
  • Experience with federal grants
  • Experience with program assessment and evaluation
  • 2 years supervisory experience
  • Driver's License
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience managing a data collection system
  • Detail oriented

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) discipline preferred
  • Ph.D.
