Position Description & Details:

The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute invites applications for a social science researcher. The UGPTI offers a great environment for professional growth and inspiration in our interdisciplinary research and outreach program. The candidate will work closely with partner agencies and community stakeholders on rural traffic safety analyses related to human factors in traffic injury prevention. The individual will have the opportunity to utilize his/her strengths in contributing to a growing research program, data synthesis and knowledge building. Exceptional interpersonal, communication and organizational skills are essential. This position is full-time benefited.

Responsibilities:

• Develop SAS script to prepare data and conduct queries
• Manage essential databases and quality control processes
• Use Microsoft Office to present summarize queries for professional audiences
• Contribute to research and evaluation projects in traffic safety
• Use excellent communication skills in working with colleagues and clients

Advertised Salary: $56,000+, commensurate with experience

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree, or Bachelor's degree plus two years related work experience, or in fields of sociology, psychology, public health, criminal justice, epidemiology, statistics, or related field.
• Proficiency with statistical software, such as SAS, and MS Office applications.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and with attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced SAS skills and/or related work experience.
• Technical writing experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of rural transportation issues and policies.
• Professional experience with traffic safety stakeholders.

Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute

The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute (UGPTI) is a research, education, and outreach center at North Dakota State University which is guided, in part, by an advisory council composed of representatives of various organizations, industries, and agencies affecting or affected by transportation.

Mission

Providing innovative transportation research, education, and outreach that promote the safe and efficient movement of people and goods.

• Research - Conducting applied and advanced research in highway, transit, rail, air, and waterway transportation that addresses the critical issues of the state, region, and nation.
• Education - Educating the transportation workforce of tomorrow through multidisciplinary curricula that focus on transportation economics, management, infrastructure planning, mobility, and supply chain logistics.
• Outreach - Improving the skills and knowledge of the existing workforce through training, technical assistance, and the transfer of research results to practitioners.
