The Technical Document Writer will create clear, concise and accurate user documentation for a variety of purposes, including manufacturing instructions and customer installations. This position will also edit and maintain internal and external facing documentation that is easy to read and understand. The technical writer works on multiple phases of documentation and will perform various levels of editing. Assignments may start as small to mid-sized projects and will increase in complexity as knowledge and skills increase.


Essential Duties

  • Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, style, and terminology.
  • Prepare charts, graphs and forms to accompany documentation where necessary
  • Ensure fields flow in the correct sequence
  • Maintain records and files of all work including revisions.
  • Work with Engineering, Production team, Marketing and Sales to establish technical specifications and determine subject material to be developed for a particular publication.
  • Observe production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail.
  • Study drawings, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail.
  • Select or generate photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
  • Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, and content.
  • Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by others.
  • Meet with subject-matter experts to ensure specialized topics are appropriately addressed.
  • Circulate drafts for applicable approvals and implement approved documentation.
  • Arrange for duplication and distribution of material.
  • Complete other duties as assigned


Experience, Skills and Educational Requirements

  • Associates degree in a Technical or Communications discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Three or more years' experience with mechanical assembly and technical communication
  • Practitioner or certification from STC preferred
  • Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Visio and SolidWorks experience preferred
  • Video experience preferred
