Position Information

The position is responsible for recruitment and retention of underrepresented populations. Serves as a liaison with other campus entities and represents NDSU professionally.

Duties Include:
  • Commitment to Service, Teamwork, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Perform departmental responsibility for serving the needs of diverse populations and informing campus of programming including:
    • Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring a retention strategy for diverse populations
    • Assist in the analysis of data and development of reports on demographics and retention statistics
    • Be knowledgeable as a resource on concerns of specific diverse populations in higher education
    • Assist in planning and coordinating cultural programs, including but not limited to the following major annual events: Hispanic Awareness Month, Native American Heritage Month, Black History Month, and LGBTQA Awareness
    • Inform diverse population of the resources available to them in the department and in the community to help them be successful at NDSU
    • Serve as the advisor to diverse student organizations, as needed
    • Plan and implement diverse populations engagement activities throughout the year e.g., open houses, Welcome Week events, graduation celebrations, etc.
    • Direct diverse populations Advising and Career Center, Academic Success Programs, Financial Aid Office, Equal Opportunity and Title IX Office, and other campus resources
    • Perform departmental training responsibilities for faculty, staff and students including:
    • Work with the Faculty and Equity Office and other offices on diversity, equity, and inclusion training programs by providing the training, organizing materials, arranging meeting dates, times and space, and promotion of training opportunities across campus
    • Work with the Faculty and Equity Office and other offices on Safe Zone trainings by providing the training, organizing materials, arranging meeting dates, times and space, and promotion of training opportunities across campus
    • Assist with developing other trainings for campus
  • Perform outreach responsibilities for diverse populations in a professional manner inlcuding:
    • Design and distribute promotional items informing campus and the community of the department's programs
    • Contribute to the department web site, newsletters, brochure, and social media outlets
    • Participate on division/department/university committees related to the work of supporting diverse populations on campus
    • Participate with surrounding campuses' cultural and LGBTQA programs representing NDSU.
  • Assist with general activities in the office

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS or BA degree in Social/ Behavioral Sciences, Education or Related Field
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal, public speaking, and written communication skills
  • Evidence of experiences working with and commitment to all diverse populations
  • Evidence of strong computer skills
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with post-secondary students, staff, or faculty in an educational setting
  • Evidence of ability to identify and complete assignments in a multi-task environment
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and/or give presentations to large and small groups of people
  • A professional demeanor
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs
  • Interpersonal/oral/written communication skills and high-quality customer oriented/service

Preferred Qualications:
  • Understanding of program assessment processes
  • Knowledge of the cultures and experiences of Native American, Black/African American, Asian American, Latinx, refugee/permanent resident populations, LGBTQA groups, and other diverse populations and underrepresented groups

Advertised Salary:
  • $40,000+, commensurate with experience
