Department Overview

Proudly serving as Minnesota's children's hospital since 1924, Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, is the eighth-largest pediatric health care organization in the U.S. Each year, Children's provides care through nearly 13,000 inpatient visits and more than 200,000 emergency room and other outpatient visits. An independent, not-for-profit health care provider, Children's has 319 staffed hospital beds and services available in all major pediatric specialties: emergency care; newborn and pediatric intensive care; outpatient and inpatient surgery; diagnostic services, including radiology and laboratory; and special programs in the areas of respiratory, cardiology, cancer, premature birth, adolescent development, child abuse, and epilepsy. In addition to our Minneapolis and St. Paul Campuses, Children's also includes Children's West, a pediatric care center in Minnetonka offering same-day surgery as well as diagnostic, rehabilitative, and developmental outpatient services; Children's - Roseville, an outpatient pediatric rehabilitation center; and Children's Clinics - Woodwinds, pediatric specialty clinics at the Woodwinds Health Campus in Woodbury.

Position Summary

Provide a safe and secure environment to all individuals at Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, including patients, visitors, and staff. The position will work with hospital security staff to coordinate responses to events should the need arise. As requested, this role will respond and actively assist hospital security and staff in dealing with high risk or security situations, including performing after action risk assessments and on-site evaluations. The officer will serve as a liaison and interact with other law enforcement agencies when requested by Children's leadership or when law enforcement is on-site. The officer will observe the conditions of the hospital, identify concerns, and report them to security.

Qualifications
Experience:
* Two (2) years completed work experience in a law enforcement position with the Minneapolis or St. Paul Police Department.

Preferred Experience:
* Working with children and families in crisis. Work in a healthcare setting or have school liaison experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
* Strong written and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of state and local laws, ordinances, and statutes. Ability to facilitate crisis intervention through use of de-escalation skills.

License/Certification:
* Maintain a law enforcement officer license issued by the MN POST (Police Officers Standards and Training) board.
